Best Dressed: Golden Globes 2020

The stars of the big and small screen were out in force last night as the awards season kicked off with the 77th annual Golden Globes. From Margot Robbie in sequins to Zoe Kravitz in polka dots, here are our best dressed of the night…

Who: Naomi Watts

Wearing: Armani Prive

Why we love it: We love this elevated take on a black evening gown, with heavy embellishment and velvet detailing. A halterneck style is the perfect way to show off her toned arms.

Who: Scarlet Johansson

Wearing: Vera Wang

Why we love it: With its plunging neckline, hourglass shape and exaggerated hip design, this is all the glamour and drama we’d expect from Scar Jo. The deep red colour, ballerina bun and diamond-laden necklace add an extra dose of 'Hollywood' to the look.

Who: Jannie Mai

Wearing: Elisabetta Franchi

Why we love it: 2020 brides, pay attention: this is how you do bridal with a difference. We love the statement shoulder detailing and wide leg trousers for a cool-meets-glamorous look.

Who: Zoey Deutch

Wearing: Fendi Custom

Why we love it: Billowing sleeves? Check. Plunging neckline? Check. Striking primary colour? Check… this statement Fendi design has it all. We love that it has real impact, without being too sexy or revealing.

Who: Kat Graham

Wearing: Georges Hobeika

Why we love it: If we had to pick a favourite from the night, this one most likely wins. Even without the cut-out detail it would be a spectacular evening gown; coupled with the bra-like detail, it’s transformed into the perfect hybrid of sexy and glamorous.

Who: Bel Powley

Wearing: Miu Miu

Why we love it: Look to this ruffled, puff-sleeve design for modern red carpet inspo – with references like The Vampire’s Wife, Horror Vacui et al in mind, it’s the perfect contemporary take on smart dressing.

Who: Margot Robbie

Wearing: Chanel

Why we love it: The simplicity of this dress is what makes it work – a statement sequined corset adds interest to a simple white shift skirt, whilst pockets and tousled hair create a relaxed, modern feel.

Who: Renee Zellweger

Wearing: Armani

Why we love it: This pretty cornflower blue design, with subtle embellishment down its thigh-high split, makes a refreshing change from some of the OTT glitz and glam we’ve seen on the red carpet of late. Matching shoes reference the 90s trend.

Who: Zoe Kravitz

Wearing: YSL

Why we love it: Polka dots on the red carpet don’t usually do it for team SL, but the clashing prints on this YSL number just works. Big bow detailing and a slick of red on the lips elevate the look.

Who: Jodie Comer

Wearing: Mary Katrantzou

Why we love it: Oversized, statement sleeves, high neckline… this dramatic dress has it all. We love a jewel shade on the red carpet, and the unexpected addition of a feathered bag makes it that bit cooler.
