3 Cool Brands To Have On Your Radar
Objets Daso
Founded by husband-and-wife team Pratik and Catherine Whang, Objets Daso is the latest British bag brand on our radar, offering luxury, minimalist designs. After noticing a shift in the way people consumed fashion during the pandemic, the couple set out to launch a brand that offered thoughtfully made accessories designed to last. With a name inspired by their heritage, hero styles include the Hye – a polished, structured and minimalist bag named after Korean painter, poet, pioneer and feminist Na Hye Seok. It was so o popular that Hye is now available in mini form, too. There’s also the super sleek Vivian bucket bag, and the slim oblong-shaped Josephine. All finished with the brand’s signature, and intentionally instantly-recognisable, gold-tone clasp.
Objets Daso also launches in small volumes, rather than seasonal collections. “Launching this way enables us to create short, connected stories through our collections,” Catherine explains. “Volume 1 explores a narrative inspired by the beautiful nostalgia of the 50s and the feminine icons who reimagined traditions during that era, all captured through a series of bags.” Small drops also mean limited production runs and reduced waste.

Moss & Cable
After completing a master’s degree at the London College of Fashion where she specialised in knitwear, and encouraged by a professor, Siobhan McKenna founded her brand Moss + Cable. “I didn’t initially set out to launch a business, my intention was to create a beautiful sweater for myself, but once I set up an Instagram account, I knew there was a demand for what I was creating. It grew from there,” she explains. Inspired by her hometown of Donegal, Moss + Cable is now the brand to know for a modern take on traditional Irish Aran knits. Named after two of the most famous stitches – moss and cable – the brand brings together folklore, quality and knowhow through stylish but functional everyday designs.
You’ll find gender-free heirloom pieces like cable knit crewnecks and cardigans in everything from classic black and camel to ecru. “We recently launched a turtleneck lambswool Aran in a sunshine shade, designed for the grey days of January,” Siobhan explains. “Wearing it is meant to bring joy and change your mood as well as elevate your outfit.” Each garment is created through a combination of hand stitching and needlework using wool, and the brand is passionate about keeping traditional Donegal production methods alive.

Ruhe
Founded by Arabella Thorns-Hartley, British brand Ruhe celebrates a versatile and minimal aesthetic through quality wardrobe heroes like classic shirts and relaxed tailoring. After finding a gap in the market for a sustainable brand doing basics well, she founded Ruhe in 2022. Each collection adds to the building blocks of a capsule wardrobe, with pieces you’ll turn to time and again. Styles are created to be worn every day and each drop is designed to complement the last. Plus, everything is made in small batches in the UK, so supply matches demand. Accountability and transparency are equally important and British production enables a close relationship with the factory. “I hope to try to shift to a pre-order model to help move closer to the zero-waste goal at some point,” Arabella explains. “The downside of a small brand can often be the sizing range and this is something I want to work on. I’ve also got new colours launching in summer – watch this space – and a few new styles that I can’t wait to share.”
