A Fashion Brand Owner’s Favourite Shopping Destinations, Brands & More
If I could only shop on one street, it would be Finance Street, Central, Hong Kong. Almost 20 years later, I can still remember the first time I went to Lane Crawford and shopped Helmut Lang there. Back then it was a groundbreaking to see designers like Rick Owens merchandised alongside all the other major names.
The most unusual shops in the world can be found in Osaka. I used to go to Japan a lot when I was young for gymnastics and I was always amazed by the mix of stores. I love Hedy Vintage because it has such a unique curation.
The coolest boutique in the world has to has to be Collette in Paris – in its prime 15 years ago. It was just something else and the crowd made it so special. I remember buying CDs there and listening to music in the store for hours. Nowadays though, I love JUS in Stockholm, which still carries an amazing edit of international brands.
The best concept store in the world is 10 Corso Como in Milan. I’ve always had a real soft spot for that place – it’s more than just a store, it’s an experience. From the fashion edit to the books, art and café, everything feels so thoughtfully curated. It’s one of those destinations I can return to time and again and still find something new and inspiring.
The best destination for independent stores is Rome. I love Chez Dédé; it's a lifestyle store that gives me a lot of inspiration, especially the fashion and homeware.
The most unexpected fashion destination is Australia. I just got our order in from David Jones, so I can’t wait to launch Stylein there! It’s going to be a lot of fun getting to know the market and seeing what resonates with consumers there. I love the effortlessness of Australian style – it feels very synonymous with my own. Brands like SIR, DIISH, Posse and Matteau all capture the vibe perfectly.
If I could only wear one brand again, it would be Stylein. But I’m also a huge shoe girl and since I’m not buying many clothes these days, I’m allowed to spend more money on footwear! My favourite brands include The Row, Manolo Blahnik, Prada and Khaite.
The coolest under-the-radar brand is sania d'mina. The shoes are great and very comfortable – even the highest heels. I also really love jewellery from Laura Vann.
The best place for vintage shopping is probably Tokyo, but closely followed by Paris. I bought my very first Chanel bag in Paris 23 years ago in the Marais but generally Tokyo has since become the best destination for vintage shopping. The breadth of choice and price point is just staggering.
For repairs and alterations, I only trust my team in Stylein atelier. They are the best at looking after my clothes but for maintaining shoes and bags, I go to Bäckmans Skoservice.
The best fashion gift I’ve ever given someone was some vintage Louis Vuitton weekend bags I bought for my husband; I really think he looks hotter when travelling with them!
The best fashion gift I’ve ever received is a Cartier watch from my husband for my 45th birthday. I’m completely over the moon with it – it’s so perfect: minimal and timeless. It’s the kind of piece I’ll cherish forever. As a rule, I’m not someone who shops excessively – I much prefer a ‘less is more’ approach, investing in a few high-quality pieces rather than buying for quantity.
The best place for people watching is Hotel Costes in Paris. In Stockholm, I love people watching on Mäster Samuelsgatan. Swedes tend to dress up on Saturdays and I love the vibe around lunchtime at the weekend on this street.
The best coffee is served at Sempre Espresso Bar – the best part is I can also practice my Italian!
My favourite restaurant in Stockholm is Sturehof. It’s a true classic, which suits me perfectly, as I tend to lean quite traditional in my tastes. I always go for seafood, paired with a glass of ice-cold white Burgundy; it has one of the most impressive wine lists in the city.
My latest discovery is Stockholm Stadshotell. It does the best cocktails and I love the concept. The service is also really good.
The coolest local spot is Ett Hem. It perfectly balances atmosphere, food and understated luxury. There’s something incredibly special about the setting – it feels intimate and personal rather than overly formal, yet every detail is so thoughtfully considered. Whether it’s for a relaxed dinner or just soaking up the ambience, it’s the kind of place that always feels inspiring and elegant.
I’m very loyal customer of Hotel Diplomat. The suite there has the best view over the water.
Riche does the best brunch in Stockholm. My friends and I have been going there for 25 years – so it feels like a bit like our living room these days! When we’re done, we pop up the street and have a drink at Teaterbaren. The dry martinis are some of the best you’ll ever try.
