Let Outerwear Do The Work
“It’s all about a statement coat this time of year. I love simple outfits with bold details, and in winter that means oversized coats, chunky jewellery, and sunglasses if it’s sunny. I also recommend choosing fabrics that keep you warm. Colour-wise, find tones that work with your complexion – black and white are classics, but I love a burgundy, gold, emerald-green, or rich dark brown.”
Have A Few Foolproof Formulas
“My winter evening outfit formula is either a simple slip dress in warm ivory or gold, paired with a faux fur coat or shawl. For something more casual, it’s a black jersey or knitted dress with gold bangles and statement earrings. Sometimes, I’ll opt for a pencil skirt or tailored trousers with an oversized shirt. Having a few go-to combinations makes getting ready for an evening out effortless.”
Choose The Right Accessories
“The right accessories can completely transform an outfit and make even the simplest look feel more considered. I swear by statement jewellery, chic scarves, leather gloves in black, brown, or burgundy, big coats, tights, slingbacks, heeled boots, and a red lip. The simplest thing can make a big difference.”
Prioritise Warmth & Practicality
“I tend to avoid short dresses in winter – they’re not the most practical – and I steer clear of bright colours, instead opting for deeper, richer tones that feel more timeless. It’s about finding the right balance between looking elegant and feeling comfortable.”
Rely On Your Go-To Brands
“I love occasion wear brands that make pieces that are designed work year-round rather than being tied to specific seasons. Arcina Ori is one of my favourites right now – everything is incredibly unique, flattering and such great quality. I also love Shona Joy, Misha Collection, Stolen Stores, Alexis, Runaway The Label, Meshki, House of CB, Serenity Silk, and Rat & Boa. For more special occasions, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Dior, and Zimmermann are my go-tos.”
Look Beyond The Big Names
“Arcina Ori and Stolen Stores are still quite under the radar, at least in Europe. Huong Boutique is another brand I recently discovered from Vietnam. I also share a lot of brands and links on ShopMy to keep track of everything I find, so I’m always on the lookout for new labels that offer something unique.”
Take Inspiration From The Past
“Sheer brown tights, headscarves, espresso and mocha tones, slick side-parted buns and even bridal trends are all elements I’ve been incorporating into my style this season. I always take inspiration from past runway shows, archival collections, and classic red-carpet looks.”
Don’t Follow Trends Blindly
“I rarely gravitate towards modern trends, and any contemporary figures I do admire tend to wear a lot of archival pieces. I also look at celebrity stylists and spend time on Pinterest or buried in books documenting runway shows from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Movies are another big source of inspiration for me.”
Invest In Pieces That Work Year After Year
“A silk slip dress that fits perfectly is a must. Fit is everything and a great dress delivers instant confidence. An oversized structured wool coat – in black, cream or chocolate – is another essential. Or, for something more statement, a long faux fur coat. Finally, jewellery – I’m a gold girl through and through, so I’m always stocking up on chunky or thin stacking bangles, bold collars and large earrings.”
Have A Few Standout Pieces
“The last piece I bought that I’m obsessed with is a strapless silk dress from Shona Joy – it’s borderline bridal but beautiful for the right occasion. I also recently received a black strapless dress by Misha that’s more for special occasions, but it feels amazing. Other than that, the jewellery collaboration between Julietta and Monday Swimwear has been a staple – the earrings aren’t too large, making them perfect for everyday wear, and the necklaces instantly elevate a simple or strapless dress.”
Mix Vintage & Designer Accessories
“My favourite evening bags are mostly vintage second-hand finds. I also love the mini YSL bucket bag, and for more casual occasions, I usually carry something from Flattered, Freja NYC, or DeMellier. Vintage finds always add something unique to an outfit.”
Keep A Versatile Shoe Collection
“I recently found some vintage suede slingbacks by Hobbs on Vinted, and I’m obsessed – they’re super simple and chic. Otherwise, I’ve been loving Tissium and Le Silla has some beautiful high- and mid-heels for more formal events.”
Use Layering Tricks To Stay Warm
“Tights under long dresses are a game changer when it’s cold since they won’t be seen but still add warmth. Scarves wrapped around the head are another go-to – I was obsessed with this look in summer for shade, but in winter, it’s practical too. Gloves also elevate a look instantly.”
