The Luxe List: January
THE CANDLE: Quai Melrose Place
Ouai has transformed its popular Melrose Place fragrance into a candle. Inspired by founder Jen Atkin’s home, the candle is presented in a concrete vessel and filled with a natural coconut and soy-blend wax that’s finished with notes of pink peppercorn, peony, rose, amber and sandalwood. Burn time is estimated at around 55 hours.

THE FILM: Licorice Pizza
Licorice Pizza is the latest film from Paul Thomas Anderson – the man behind Phantom Thread and There Will Be Blood. It tells the story of Alana Kane (Alana Haim of girl band Haim) and Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman) as they grow up and fall in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973. Also starring Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn and Maya Rudolph, we recommend hunting down one of Picturehouse’s 35mm screenings for a true 70s-style experience.

THE FASHION: Couture Week
Running from 24th-27th January 2022, Haute Couture Week is one of the most inspiring on the annual fashion calendar. In light of disruptions from Covid-19, designers will continue to present a mix of physical shows as well as digital presentations. Expect your Instagram feeds to be filled with fairy-tale fashion, showcasing the best quality and craftsmanship from the likes of Alexander Vaulthier, Chanel, Dior Giambattista Vali and Shiaparelli.
THE DRY JAN ACCESSORY: Lockdown Liquor Seaward Pepino
Looking to inject a bit of fun into Dry January? Lockdown Liquor has created an alcohol-free version of its popular Pepino blend, replacing the gin with Pentire Seaward. The mix also includes a refreshing mix of 100% pressed lime juice, mint, cucumber and simple syrup, resulting in a zesty and sophisticated booze-free cocktail. Simply shake the bottle, serve ice cold in a coupe glass and rub a slice of cucumber on the rim of the glass, or pour over an ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with a sprig of mint.

THE HOMEWARE HIT: Monica Vinader
This month, Monica Vinader will make her first foray into homewares with a new collaboration with Bahamas-based ceramicist, Florence St George. The pretty collection includes four groups of nesting dishes in a range of shades: Bahama Blue, Island Yellow, Sunset Pink and a multi-coloured set. A hand-painted gold rim rounds off the finish, so every piece catches the light. The dishes are food safe and each order comes in a Monica Vinader x Florence St George dustbag.

THE MUSE: The Duchess of Cambridge
The Duchess of Cambridge has commemorated her 40th birthday with portraits taken in Kew Gardens last November by Paolo Roversi. In one photo, Kate is pictured in an Alexander McQueen dress and a pair of earrings the Queen loaned to her. In two black-and-white portraits, Kate wears earrings that belonged to Princess Diana. The milestone birthday marks the start of an important few years for the future queen, as royal events intensify and lockdowns ease.

THE RESTAURANT: Adesse
Award-winning chef Matthew Kenney launches plant-based restaurant Adesse this month. On Selfridges’ second floor, the menus will include imaginative interpretations of traditional dishes, such as jackfruit ‘crab cake’, beetroot carpaccio and kelp noodle cacio e pepe. When it comes to desserts, we love the sound of the chocolate and salted caramel crunch; and lime parfait with avocado and spiced macadamia.

One of our favourite chefs has launched a collection of plant-based jarred sauces. The chilli sambal can be used to add heat to noodles, edamame, wilted spinach, stir-fries and avocado on toast; the peanut salsa is a medley of Korean chilli and ginger designed for adding to roasted aubergine, steaks and grilled asparagus; while the smoked pesto is a love letter to white miso. Smoky and slightly sweet, home cooks can stir a spoon into lunchtime dressings or use it to add finesse to a roast chicken.
