Me & My Instagram: Jeanette Madsen

Before co-founding party dress label Rotate in 2017, Jeanette Madsen’s impossibly stylish wardrobe and regular street style appearances had already earned her a huge Instagram following. Here, the bona fide fashion star takes us behind the scenes of her social media…

My most liked picture is...

this one from New York Fashion Week back in September 2019. It’s also one of my favourite outfits ever, I felt so chic and casual – my favourite feeling. My followers could obviously sense how good it felt.

My favourite Instagram outfit is...

hard to choose. I have several. But my second most liked picture is one of them. It’s from Paris Fashion Week, also in September 2019, and photographed by Acielle at Style du Monde. I love the oversized aesthetic, the contrast of something so casual mixed with feminine accessories like strappy heels, earrings and a clutch. Plus, the colour combination is fun, but still subtle.

The person who takes most of my Instagram pictures is...

my husband and myself, I love a good mirror selfie. But going through my most liked pictures, a lot of them are also from street style photographers and mostly Acielle – she catches my good side.

My most saved picture is...

actually the same as above, the yellow look, and second is the most liked so let’s go to the third, which is from London Fashion Week. I normally don’t like to show my bare legs when I’m going to be photographed, as I’ve seen so many horrible angles. But sock boots are really flattering, and I wanted to wear my new skirt. Again, it has that oversized but still feminine mix.

I edit my photos via...

VSCO and Photoshop. A little contrast in the light and shadows. And sometimes a little bit of the VSCO filter c1 or m5.

The image I wasn’t sure whether or not to post was...

a picture of me in lingerie. I can do swimwear pictures when I’m on holiday but I think this was my first full lingerie post. I really wanted to support my friend Linda Tol on her new collection with Love Stories Intimate, so I decided not to show my face at the same time. I felt I needed to hide at least something.

My standard pose is...

no longer a thing. I actually thought I had one, but I see now that it really varies. Generally speaking, I show standing, full figured outfits.

The images that makes me happiest are...

my family pictures! And this one aswell. It was just after our show last summer and we were so high on happiness.

The piece that features on my Instagram most is...

jeans, especially light blue ones.

To get the right shot, it takes...

sometimes six pictures, sometimes 100. It really depends on how much time we have or if it’s a paid job.

Stories are...

for my followers to get a peak of my everyday life and what makes me happy.

I don’t regret any Instagram outfits...

I would never leave the house not feeling comfortable. I would rather be late – sorry!

The picture that was the hardest to get was...

this one. First of all, it was my girlfriend who had to help me as my husband didn't want to. Second, it was so difficult with the strong sun in the middle of the sea. Third, I was in a bikini, which is always tricky when you’re not feeling 100% comfortable in your own skin. I’d say this took about 100 shots to get right, maybe even 200…

The coolest setting...

can really be anything – for me it depends on the outfit and my mood. But I do have a soft spot for a skyline in the background. It reminds me of how big our world is and how small we are. It’s a really nice contrast.

My favourite holiday photo is...

impossible to choose... but this one from the Maldives with my oldest son Wilbert Storm almost brings me to tears.

My favourite picture of myself is...

this one, as it shows all my personalities!

What makes a good Instagram picture is...

a feeling – for me it’s positivity and the joy of inspiring other people.

My favourite person to follow on Instagram is...

impossible to choose. There is not one person I prefer over another. I find so much inspiration from everybody, each one has something different to give. It’s also the reason why I follow a lot of people.

The photo that summarises my Instagram most is...

this happy, colour block outfit of me attending Fashion Week.

@garconjon

I try to upload pictures that are...

only positive.
