Trend Report: Liquid Leather

Where It Started
Once synonymous with the bold, daring spirit of Mary Quant’s 60s mod girls, patent leather has evolved over the decades. From the pop culture of the 1980s – think early Madonna – to 90s-era Chanel, it’s something designers have continued to embrace throughout the decades.
On The Runway
High-shine leather was a standout trend on the AW24 runways, with Chloé contrasting liquid leather with soft, billowing blouses as it reinvents its boho house codes. Meanwhile, Bally opted for a softer colour palette that highlighted just how versatile the trend can be, before Ferragamo made a statement with head-to-toe matching ensembles in rich burgundy and gold.
How To Wear It Now
A high-shine pencil skirt is this season's must-have piece. Pair it with skinny roll-necks, oversized shirts and classic t-shirts to let it do the talking. For an easy day-to-night transition, opt for a leather midi dress. Dress it down with a roll-neck and blazer, or elevate it with polished slingbacks and statement earrings. Equally, you can’t go wrong with a pair of loose leather trousers – use them to add a modern twist to your knitwear looks.
