CLAUDIA LAMBERT

Sydney-based Claudia Lambert is a must-know for cool-girl interiors. Her background in editorial styling – for Vogue LivingCosmopolitanSitchu to name a few – brings a glossy touch to her residential work. Her schemes are contemporary, often using a focal piece of art to add personality and character to a room, and pulling in accent colours with accessories. Her recent collaboration with Australian artist Dina Broadhurst – known for her chic and sensual photographic collages – is a case in point.

STUDIO EZRA

Georgia Ezra is the woman behind Studio Ezra, the design arm of an interiors collective that also includes Tiles of Ezra and online lifestyle store AHW. You can hire her to design your house or create artisan and architectural objects for your home – she does dinnerware and linens as well as handmade tiles. Her Mediterranean and Moroccan influences are always to the fore – ‘elevated modern rustic’ would be one way to sum her work up. She recently scored three spots in Australian House & Garden’s ‘Top 50 Rooms’ issue.

TALI ROTH

Based out of New York and her native Melbourne, Tali Roth works with everyone from A-listers to first-home buyers, and her interiors are as eclectic as her clientele. She artfully mixes old with new, and her colour palettes are unexpected and exciting – tonal reds are commonplace in schemes that are never boring. Offering end-to-end interior design and decor services, Tali was shortlisted for this year’s Australian Interior Design Awards for two of her projects.

THE STABLES

Clean, modern and coastal are among the words that spring to mind when looking at the work of boutique interior design and styling company The Stables. Working out of Sydney, the five-woman team creates schemes that are as functional as they are stylish – count on a timeless simplicity that can be enjoyed for years to come. The team focuses on the residential, doing everything from concept design to furniture sourcing and styling.

ARENT & PYKE

Juliette Arent and Sarah-Jane Pyke put the decorative arts front and centre of their interior architecture and design work. These regular award winners have been catching eyes for more than a decade with a soulful approach that emphasises quality, timelessness and a touch of the unusual. So much so, they earnt a photoshoot in the influential Belle magazine for their bold, inventive reimagining of a century-old family four-bed in Sydney’s inner west. That was just a couple of months after Belle also made Juliette and Sarah-Jane its interior designers of the year. More recently, Arent & Pyke featured in Vogue Living’s ‘The Future Of Australian Design’ issue.

PHOEBE NICOL

Sydney-based Phoebe Nicol works at the top of the market, specialising in high-end residences and boutiques. Seamlessly blending old and new, she often brings European design classics into modern Australian settings. Her own schemes travel well too: it’s easy to imagine the elegant neutrals she’s used in magazine photoshoots working beautifully in the Northern Hemisphere. Also worth knowing about, Phoebe’s antiques store The Vault is a treasure trove of inspirational forever pieces.

ALEXANDER & CO

Alexander & Co are adamant – and we believe them – that exceptional design changes the world around us. They practise what they preach in some remarkable interiors projects that span Bondi Beach penthouses to the studio’s own HQ. Cafés, bars and restaurants feature heavily on their IG, filling followers with ideas for how to create timelessly warm spaces of their own. A recent overhaul of a one-room cocktail bar in New Zealand showcases their skill, proving that even the smallest space can be a little showstopping.

TAMSIN JOHNSON

Tamsin Johnson has made her name with projects in New York, Paris and London, but she remains the Melbourne-born daughter of an antiques dealer at heart. Growing up surrounded by beautiful objects, she learnt that good pieces will always be good, and that comfort is key. Her work today embodies these life rules, creating a sense of luxurious ease across residential and commercial properties.

BONE MADE

Leah and Fliss have been working together for more than a decade. Their design and styling studio Bone Made is younger than that, but it’s already a fine showcase for their laid-back approach to interiors projects. Their residential work has caught our eye: picture waterfront properties in the Sydney ’burbs inspired by French brasseries, contemporary updates for ‘Federation’ period family homes, and a Californian makeover for a listed bungalow. Proof, if it’s needed, that inspiration can come from anywhere.

FLACK STUDIO

Melbourne-based Flack Studio is all about homes, hotels and retail spaces. David Flack and his team worked on Ace Hotel Sydney – the cool American group’s first property in the Southern Hemisphere. Whatever the project, Flack’s multi-talented designers and architects integrate lighting, furniture and textiles into their striking renovation work – and materials and texture always come first. The studio’s @FlackAndFriends offshoot account is a great way to discover the work of its collaborators, clients and friends.
