Picture this. You’re hosting your close friends for an early evening catch up. It’s getting dark. You switch on the marble wall lights, set the rechargeable table lamp in the corner, and light three pillar candles.
Your friend walks in and straight away compliments the beautiful dried floral arrangement on the table before sitting themselves down. They feel comfortable because the table and chairs feel like a luxurious version of their favourite local pub, a place where they know they can accidentally spill a drink or handle the chair without worrying they’ll damage the furniture or upset the host. They start to look around at the beautiful artwork and the timeless floor and wall finishes, breathing out a deep breath of contentment. It’s clear they’re at ease, ready to enjoy the informal evening ahead.

I wanted to create a considered and warm space that was neither too traditional nor too modern – something that felt elegant and classic without taking itself too seriously. I always like to mix styles and periods of furniture, using unexpected combinations that feel harmonious in the space.
I started with the backdrop of a warm and velvety tobacco brown wall colour, with a hint of khaki green that feels both classic and modern. I have combined antiques with contrasting modern lighting; similarly, a classic chest of drawers is paired with the modern burlwood dining table and forged steel side tables – contrasting in period and style but complementing each other unexpectedly.
I opted for simple, textural window treatments, with simple chic blinds that not only filter the light by day, but soften the darkness outside at night. These are paired with simple, heavy cream bouclé curtains against the rich, velvety wall colour for an elegant, pared-back feel. For an extra bit of layered luxury, I would install a secondary Roman blind over the top.

We love creating dining spaces that include statement pieces – it really is an area where you can have some fun. It is important to consider practicality alongside beauty – mixing hidden storage with open shelving is an excellent way to balance varying needs in modern-day homes, offering space to hide away regular items while displaying pieces that bring in pops of colour and styling objects to enhance your overall scheme.
We offered softness with the sophistication of a sociable, round dining table that adds movement next to the more angular items, with a central leg for ease. Choosing warm woods and earthy tones, along with a combination of textures, allows the scheme to feel fresh in the lighter months with table linens and white flowers, while warm reds and ambers bring depth and richness in the autumn and winter. This more formal dining space is an example of how we love to mix traditional design with more modern elements without being worried about uniformity – it would be easy to bring in vintage, antique and modern objects over time that together create a personal and unique space to you.

When designing this family dining room, the goal was to create a space that felt both homely and inviting. The dining room, often a multifunctional area, not only serves as a place for entertaining but also doubles up as a work and homework hub.
We love to mix materials and finishes to create an eclectic yet thoughtfully curated space. The striking rug from Arum Fellow sets the tone for the scheme, with pops of colour introduced through accessories and tableware. Offering the option to provide your own fabric for the dining chairs allows for a more bespoke, personal touch. The chequerboard sideboard from William Yeowood echoes the chair fabric, adding a layer of cohesion to the design. As a finishing touch, a bold piece of artwork often becomes the room’s focal point, tying the entire scheme together through its colours and style.

I wanted to create an uplifting, grown-up but quirky dining space – a playful take on a more traditional dining room. Dining rooms are the perfect spaces to use wallpaper to add personality – I have always loved (and am itching to use) this wallpaper by Nicole Fabre. It is the most perfect shade of yellow.
The table and chairs add a contemporary twist to stop the scheme feeling too stuffy. Side lamps are essential for mood lighting in the evening, and I love the glow this soft fabric pendant gives. Adding a rug on a wooden or tiled floor helps to anchor the dining table in the space, and this jute rug is a stylish but practical choice.

This dining room brings together a curated mix of materials and textures, creating a space for entertaining that feels warm, inviting and refined. The wooden dining table, with its natural grain and extendable design, anchors the room with timeless practicality, while linen-upholstered chairs soften the scheme.
To elevate the space, I would colour-drench the room in a warm neutral like ‘Drop Cloth’ by Farrow & Ball, enveloping the walls, woodwork and skirting in a single hue to create a cocooning effect that feels sophisticated and calm. The marble fireplace surround, with its soft veining, adds a layer of subtle luxury, while metal accents from the chandelier and wall lights provide a refined contrast and added patina.
Every detail enhances the room’s tactile and visual appeal, making it a space designed for entertaining, with a crystal coupe in hand, surrounded by friends, and immersed in a setting that blends classic elegance with contemporary flair.
