The most interesting interior shop is Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm, which is more than just a shop – it’s a design institution. They create stunning patterns and blend modern with traditional Scandinavian aesthetics. The store itself is designed like a series of beautiful, inspiring rooms. Plus, they have a lovely café inside, which is the perfect spot to relax after shopping.
The best destination for independent designers and makers is Maison Flâneur, of course! Our mission from day one has been to champion the world’s most exceptional independent makers. We started with just 20 brands and have grown to collaborate with over 300, with fresh discoveries landing each week.
I’m lucky to discover and connect with incredible under-the-radar brands every day. A few that have caught my eye lately are Mattina Moderna, a mother-daughter duo crafting the most stunning table lamps; Chelsea Vivash, a talented designer creating one-of-a-kind mirrors and lamps using intricate marquetry; and Tabby Booth, a folk art visionary whose work is bursting with personality.
The best vintage store in the world is Magasin Général in Marrakech – a treasure trove of incredible vintage finds with so much character and charm. Though my favourite vintage piece is a Persian rug I found online – it really ties its room together.
My perfect shopping day would involve just strolling through a flea market or exploring a city with no real intent to buy. The best things appear when you are not looking for them…
The best sustainable brand is Palais. Based in the Netherlands, it has a pledge that all suppliers have to sign, guaranteeing fair labour and sustainable production. You should also check Reia, a self-care brand on a mission to eliminate plastic use.
Personalised items are always so special and we see so many brands now offering this service. Two of my favourites at the moment are the super talented Josephine Dessine and Musae Studio.
The best interiors gift I’ve ever received is a unique artwork from a Greek artist called Iosif Foskolos who uses hand-embroidered golden threads on canvas to create the most beautiful shapes. The one I received is called Parhelion and depicts the sun. It’s the first thing you see when you enter my flat. My latest purchase for my home is a striking, vintage testa di moro that I found in Sicily last autumn.
The most expensive investment I have made in my home is an art piece by Hiroshi Sugimoto. I went to his exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in London last year, and it was mesmerising. He’s one of my favourite artists, especially his Seascapes series – they’re so tranquil and deeply connected to nature. The piece I bought feels incredibly personal; it reminds me of my home country, Greece, and its stunning sea.
For tableware, I am obsessed with Sabre and its endless choice of cutlery – hundreds of bold and colourful styles to choose from. It has a few boutiques which are incredibly beautiful. I visited the one in the Marais in Paris, and there’s another one in Marylebone.
I’ve become a bit of a collector of glassware. I like to mix a lot of different brands, including Casa Celva, Agustina Bottoni and Issy Granger. But the ones I still use the most are our Popotin glasses from our collaboration with Anissa Kermiche.
My go-to platform to discover and buy art is Artsy – you have a wide range of prices available and it’s great for inspiration. For soft furnishings and fabric, Svenskt Tenn has one of the biggest and most interesting collections, and offers a custom-made service, so you pretty much have unlimited choice.
For furniture, it really depends on what I am looking for. Since I moved to Portugal, one of my favourite things is the access I have to so many talented makers that can work any material and create any design you want. I am actually waiting for a custom wooden coffee table to arrive.
Lighting is definitely my partner Kat’s domain – she’s Swedish, so of course, she’s a natural. I guess it’s a survival skill when you grow up in Scandinavian. Our home has a few designer pieces, mostly from Flos.
If my house was burning down, I’d save the Seascape by Sugimoto — it’s my favourite piece in the house and holds so much meaning for me. I technically gifted it to Kat (or maybe to myself?), so if she grabs it, I’ll focus on saving her.
We have a baby on the way so I’ve fallen deep into the rabbit hole of baby stuff. It’s wild how many stylish and high-quality brands there are. Current wish-list highlights include Studio Mini, Mini Rodini and Liewood.
