A Day In The Life Of A Fashion Content Creator

Since leaving the corporate world behind, content creator Jenee Naylor has carved out a career that blends fashion, beauty and travel. Whether she’s sharing styling tips with her online community or securing a front-row seat at fashion week, her mission remains the same: to prove that style and luxury are more accessible than you think. Here, she gives us an inside look at a typical working day…

8am

I’ve made a promise to give myself slower mornings now that I’m out of the corporate world, so I wake up naturally around this time. In the past, I would have to be up at 5am or 6am. My secret to waking up feeling refreshed is taking Olly melatonin before I go to sleep. The first thing I do when I wake up is drink a double espresso in bed. I then do some work, check my phone, start replying to some emails, comments and checking my YouTube analytics. When I get up, I make my bed, clean up my closet and organise my room. My mental state is like my reality – so if it's cluttered, I feel cluttered. Right now, my morning soundtrack is the Cowboy Carter album.

9am

I prefer very low impact workoutsI exercise in the room next to our bedroom for easy access, and spend around 30 minutes walking on the treadmill. It’s my time to catch up on bad reality TV like The Real Housewives or something fun like Emily in Paris. For light strength training, I use the Melissa Wood Health app. I work out in anything by Victoria’s Secret. It’s comfortable and the fit is good – I don’t like anything too tight. After working out, I hit the shower. I'm passionate about my skincare routine because I have very dry skin from eczema. I use the Moroccan Oil shower gel followed by one of the best products I have found – the Josie Maran Body Scrub. On my face I use a Dior face wash and the Dermalogica Microfoliant. Guerlain’s Youth Watery Oil Serum and the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream are two other hero products. I’ve been using the eye cream for years and it’s taken away my dark circles. Finally, the Shiseido Suncare Stick is so easy to use.

10am

My mood dictates what I am going to wear. The weather does too.  Getting dressed is fairly easy for me because I've built a collection of pieces I really love. I'm very intentional about what I buy. I make sure I love it, not just like it. I also have to think of three ways to wear it before I can buy it. I’ve already thought about my outfit for the day while having my coffee in bed. I would describe my style as classic, but extra.  My go-to look is cargo trousers or wide-leg jeans because it feels like I did something, but really it's casual. I team those with a blazer – I love my black one by A.W.A.K.E Mode. I am also a huge fan of The AtticoDries Van Noten, and Jil Sander for those classic essentials that still feel special. When I want to take things up a notch, Christopher John Rogers is top of my list.

10.30am

I don’t eat breakfast. My stomach is too sensitive in the morning. I have a home office that I work out of with my husband and assistant, along with a studio where I shoot content. When I’m in work mode, I am never on my phone. My assistant and I are on Asana and Slack.

12pm

I go live on Instagram every Monday.  The Luxe Lunch Hour is something fun I do with my community to have a catch up.  I eat a salmon salad bowl for lunch and a smoothie from our local deli.  If I'm taking a lunch meeting, any restaurants at The Wharf are my go. It’s such a beautiful area that has Washington DC on one side and Virginia on the other. I run through topics with my assistant for my Friday newsletter, go through Asana to plan out our workload, and look at any scripts we need to write or voiceover concepts that are due.

3pm

My web series Style Unlocked is next on the list. My assistant is also the producer for the series, so we are either talking about people we want on future episodes or we're planning out the run of the show. It goes out every Monday and we are gearing up for season four. I’ve just filmed the New York Fashion Week special. Some months I fly to New York every week or every other week. It’s a commitment I’ve made to be successful while still living in Washington. In the afternoon I will take a break around 4pm to go and run some errands, and then come back to the studio to shoot content. I'm definitely a snacker. I love Smartfood Popcorn and Doritos.

7pm

I work out again. We have a tonal machine, which is great because it saves me from having to get a lot of weights. I do guided classes that work on muscle tone. For an evening event in New York, my go-to look is a suit. I have some great ones from The Frankie Shop and  Ferragamo. I am a homebody at heart – if I don’t have an event, I’ll be watching a good series. We have just finished Cross on Amazon Prime. I prefer to be in bed watching TV, but my husband likes to be on the couch, so I compromise.

10pm

I like to be in bed by 10pm, but midnight is actually an early night for me. I scroll or online shop – it feels so rebellious and no one can interrupt me. FWRD makes it so easy to shop. I love the curation and how the team style the models. The Real Real and THEOUTNET are great for picking up  things that I missed the first time round. McMullen Boutique is another favourite. On my bedside table I have my Barbie edition Stanley cup, a jewellery tray, a candle from FORVR Mood, and lip balms from The Ballet and Eadem.  I like to fall asleep with something on, so the last thing I do before bed is listen to a podcast – my current favourite is called Here's The Thing. It's just hilarious.
