9 Gins That Taste Different

The flavoured gin market has exploded of late, and when better to enjoy one than a summer evening spent in the garden? From a rosé-infused Mirabeau gin to a Jaffa Cake flavour (!) – there have never been more fun options to try…

Beefeater Blood Orange Gin

Beefeater Blood Orange Gin is a bright-tasting new gin designed for afternoons spent sipping on spritzes. Beefeater’s founder James Burrough hand selected oranges from Covent Garden Market in 1876 to create an orange gin. This original recipe has inspired this new zesty recipe, which pairs just as well in a negroni as it does with Aperol and soda. We also like the brand’s 24 bottle, which incorporates Japanese sencha tea, Chinese green tea, Seville orange peel, grapefruit peel, lemon peel, juniper, coriander seed, liquorice, angelica root, almond and orris root for a really grown-up drink.

That Boutique-y Gin Company Big Dipper Gin

That Boutique-y Gin Company Get is the place to look if you want to serve something a little different. Of the range, which also includes Spit-Roasted Pineapple (great with ginger beer and lime), Smoked Rosemary and Yuzu, we really like Big Dipper, a fairground-inspired gin created in collaboration with fragrance specialist Lizzie Ostrom of Odette Toilette. The aromas of this gin encompass the scents of popcorn, candyfloss and smokey machinery you'll find at the fair. They suggest pairing with raspberry cordial and soda for a childhood-tinged take on a G&T.

Chase Distillery Pink Grapefruit & Pomelo Gin

This zippy and zesty gin is bursting with grapefruit, juniper and lime. Made by Chase Distillery, the spirit is crafted in a copper pot with plenty of pink grapefruit and pomelo peels, and is best when served with grapefruit zest. For those who fancy something on the go, check out the team’s new hard seltzers, which blends Chase Gin and sparkling water sourced on the family farm, with no artificial ingredients. Natural botanical flavours include pink grapefruit and pomelo, Seville orange; and London dry and lemon.

Jaffa Cake Gin

Distilled with juniper, oranges, fresh orange peel, cocoa powder and actual Jaffa Cakes, this newcomer to the gin market is set to come into its own once winter hits and we can add it to hot toddies and cocoa. For now, it tastes extremely good served with tonic and a slice of orange and it makes an exceptional negroni. Expect notes of chocolate, sponge cake, vanilla, marmalade, pepper and juniper.

Mirabeau Rosé Gin

In February 2020, Mirabeau – the award-winning rosé brand founded by British winemakers Stephen and Jeany Cronk – announced the launch of Mirabeau Rosé Gin, a sophisticated, dry rosé-based gin. The drink went on to win both gold and silver at the 2020 World Gin Awards. At its core, this is a classic dry gin which uses a 100% grape-based neutral spirit which adds roundness and subtle fruitiness to the palate. The addition of some Mirabeau Classic Rosé enhances the finished gin, while lemon and coriander add layers of fresh citrus. Worth buying for the bottle alone.

Port of Leith Lind & Lime Gin

Made in Leith, Edinburgh, this London Dry gin arrives in one of the prettiest bottles out there. With juniper front and centre, plus the crisp citrus of fresh lime peel and gentle spice of pink peppercorns, Lind & Lime is well balanced and refreshing, but isn’t overly flavoured, so won’t overpower your drink. Delicious.

Sipsmith Chilli & Lime

This new limited-edition Chilli & Lime Gin has launched as part of Sipsmith’s ‘Sipping Series’. A well-balanced mix of fresh lime and a blend of seven complex chillies, the result is a refreshing and moreish sip which isn’t overly heavy on the heat. This versatile gin can help spice up a spritz, be simply topped with Indian tonic for a complex G&T, and works perfectly in a margarita.

Slingsby Yorkshire Gooseberry Gin

Slingsby Gooseberry Gin is made using Harrogate aquifer water, pure single grain spirit and locally sourced botanicals synonymous with the restorative nature of the town. Yorkshire gooseberries bring an unmistakable tangy sharpness, tempered with a fruity sweetness while retaining the classic citrus notes of the distillery’s classic award-winning London Dry gin. For a simple G&T, serve with a slice of apple. And for a spritz, the team suggests adding white vermouth, soda and freshly squeezed lemon juice alongside the gin.

Warner’s Honeybee Gin

Crafted with 28 botanicals, lavender, rose and honey, Warner’s Honeybee Gin is a sweet take on the flavoured gin trend. Every bottle of Honeybee Gin contains a dollop of honey from the distillery’s own beehives on Falls Farm, but this isn’t a sickly serve. For a perfect ‘B&T’, the team recommends serving the gin with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic water, garnished with a slice of lemon or fresh sage leaves.
