PLACES TO GO

From gorgeous new studios to reformer classes that we’ve loved for years, these are the places our Pilates fans book into.

FS8

“I love the FS8 classes. They mix it up with weights and mat work with a range of intensity. I have a restless mind, but it helps me pay attention to breathwork and I definitely sleep better after a class.” - Rebecca, SL Community

An offshoot of HIIT studio concept F45 that focuses purely on Pilates (both reformer and mat), FS8 came to the UK from Australia a few years ago and now has seven studios across London, from Ealing to Finsbury Park.

Enmei

“I came to Pilates because of an injury, and years later it’s still the only form of exercise I genuinely look forward to. It feels challenging without being punishing, which is rare. I love reformer classes such as Enmei and can’t see myself swapping it for anything else.” - Olesia, SL Community

With custom machines based on a traditional reformer, you’ll recognise some familiar movements in Enmei but they will likely be much harder. With a focus on alignment and strength, movements are slow, intentional and sweat inducing.

Heartcore

“I’ve been a regular at Heartcore for around five years now. When I’m visiting consistently, it makes the biggest difference to my body in terms of tone and strength. Jess, the founder, has an infectious positive energy that all the instructors seem to catch. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but it’s one of the few things I’ll wake up early for – and genuinely look forward to.” - Jenn George, Beauty Director + Acting Senior Wellness Editor

Those in the know will say that Heartcore is one of the hardest and most effective reformer classes out there. There are currently eight studios across London where you can test your strength on the machines, with hot mat Pilates, beginner sessions, one-to-one PT and pre- and post-natal training also available.

OnCore

“I’ve been going to OnCore consistently for over a year now. Not only have I seen real change, I’ve also not got bored at all. Sign up for Grace’s classes if you can – she’s the best.” - Orin Carlin, Beauty Writer

Alongside Orin’s favourite reformer classes, OnCore also offers mat Pilates or the slightly terrifyingly named Megaformer (otherwise known as Lagree). Working on a bigger, heavier machine, it’s actually just a ramped-up, high-intensity version of more subdued and serene Pilates practice.

Nobu Pilates

“When I fancy a change of scene I head to Nobu Pilates, which has the rare set-up of reformer, towers and chairs. The result is a unique, super dynamic and incredibly tough workout. If you can book into a class with founder Marsha, it’s ramped up a further notch – she’s a real taskmaster, albeit an incredibly kind and patient one.” - Jenn

This place is as fancy as it sounds, but it’s certainly not style over substance. Marsha, who has over 14 years of experience as a classical Pilates instructor, is passionate about technique and results, and her classes reflect that. We appreciate that the sessions are clearly labelled too: choose between Power (high energy, sweat inducing), Precision (slower and sculpting) and Pure (more traditional Pilates techniques, using a wider range of equipment).

Grateful Pilates

“I love this new studio because – beyond the brilliant Pilates – the space is soothing and elegant, with great soundtracks for the classes.” - Georgina Blaskey, Senior Interiors & Home Editor

In her small but stunning new studio in south-west London, Pilates teacher Grace focuses on making her classes approachable and friendly, which can help to distract you from the fact that your legs are shaking. If you’re a beginner, it’s a lovely place to ease yourself into the world of reformer Pilates.

“I love the classes on Fluidform because of the choice and the quality. You can do 10 minutes if that’s all you have time for, and without weights if you’re travelling.” - Pip, SL Community
