6 Beauty Rules To Follow, From Expert Facialist Lisa Franklin
Try To Double Cleanse When Possible
There is so much speculation over double cleansing. I believe doing it morning and night is fundamental for healthy, glowing skin. Wash in the morning first with a gel or cream cleanser like Alumier MD’s Purifying Gel, then use a micellar water to tone and balance. I love the Yon-Ka Eau Micellaire for its gentle, yet effective, formula. At night, remove all make-up with a heavier oil or balm, and again follow with micellar to balance out your complexion.
Look After Your Gut
It’s now widely known, but it bears repeating: a healthy gut is so important. I suffered a bout of food poisoning a few years ago and my stomach didn’t feel right for a long time afterwards, so I used The Neu Co Prebiotics Probiotics to help stabilise my gut microbiota. It’s relatively unheard of and a niche discovery of mine that I always stockpile. It provides a 15 billion-spore dose of probiotic inulin, so it’s potent, but it’s balanced with 100% organic chicory root, which is gentle on the stomach, making it ideal if you’re someone who’s prone to sensitivity. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re someone who suffers from a poorly gut.
Protect Your Hair From Pollution
Pollution and city life can wreak havoc on strands, so I swear by Iles Formula’s Finishing Serum. Not only does it protect the hair from environmental stressors, it also works over time to mend split ends while preventing colour fade and frizz with its milky, hydrating formula. It has a beautiful, subtle scent of white flowers too – I am addicted.
Don’t Underestimate A Primer
One of my biggest beauty tips is always use a make-up primer. Not the types that are thick like a BB or CC cream, but instead, one of the new breed of luxurious uber bases with wonderful skincare benefits. These multi-taskers protect the skin from damaging free radicals while creating a perfect canvas for make-up. I created my Pro-Effect Luminescent Base specially to provide an immediate enhancement in skin luminosity, reduce overall redness and enhance protection against environmental pollutants. It’s genuinely my hero product. Look for bases like this that claim to do more than just ‘smooth’ and provide ‘coverage'.
Always Take Time For Yourself
It sounds simple, but we all forget to do this. It’s important to find time for yourself, whether that’s fitness, beauty or wellness related. One of my favourite places to unwind is Clo & Flo in South Kensington. You can have your nails done, take a private one2one pilates session or get your hair done with a host of treatments on offer. I also recommend having regular facials. At my Clinic Privé, we focus on everything from long, signature facials to peels and resurfacing treatments that can be undergone in a convenient 30 minutes. Trust me when I say you’ll notice such a difference with the upkeep of regular facials – yes, it can be costly, but it’s so worth it if you want to invest in good skin.
Invest In Rose Quartz Tools
I love to use a Rose Quartz Facial Roller to massage skin both in my clinic treatments and on myself. Rose Quartz has inspired me from a very young age, and in terms of its benefits on the skin, it’s great at calming rosacea and regulating any redness. As well as the benefits of improved skin tone, it works to reduce puffiness, promote lymphatic drainage and eliminate toxins, bestowing a radiant, overall glow as it brings oxygen into the skin. There’s no wrong or right way to start, but the movement should be from the centre of the face outwards, and always roll forwards – never backwards. For lymphatic drainage, roll downwards towards the chest. Another trick is to pop your roller into the fridge for 15 minutes or so beforehand – it just gives skin an extra lift and boost.
