SHOPPING FOR BEAUTY…

“When it comes to finding niche and efficient products, I always head to Beauty Bay. They have a cool mixture of indie brands, as well as a more mainstream offering, too. In fact, their own BB line includes some incredible products, including lip glosses which aren’t sticky and come in a wide range of shades. I love the beiges and more natural tones, all of which are universally flattering. I also rate REFY, Wander Beauty, Suqqu and Kosas Cosmetics – they’re all worth having on your radar if you don’t already. REFY’s Brow Sculpt has quickly become a go-to for me, as has Wander’s Lip Retreat Oils and mascaras.

HER EARLIEST BEAUTY MEMORY…

My earliest memory was when I was around eight or nine years old. I have a sister who is eight years older than me and at the time, I’d poke fun at her for wearing make-up and being too ‘girlie,’ I was a total tomboy back then, but oh how things have changed. Soon after, I started playing with eyeshadow, and the first brand I fell in love with was MAC. To this day, their eyeshadow pots remain some of my favourites, as they’re so pigmented. I loved playing with the different effects – blue tones featured very heavily in my youth!

PRODUCTS SHE BUYS ON REPEAT…

There are so many, but I do have five products I buy on repeat. First, Aquaphor’s Healing Ointment. I use this as a lip mask every evening and then apply it throughout the day to keep my lips hydrated – it’s the only product that cuts it for me. Second, Glossier’s Boy Brow in Clear. It’s just the best at creating a bushy boy brow, without that densely placed pigment or any ashy tones. Next  it would have to be the RMS Luminiser Highlighter – this is the best highlighter on the market. I also love Chanel’s Soleil Bronzing Cream for its universal warmth. It’s so creamy and blends seamlessly into the skin. Finally, I know mentioned them already, but Wander Beauty’s Lip Retreat Oils are a must-try. Think of them as non-sticky glosses that layer up well and provide a warm tint of colour –  ‘Skinny Dip’ is my favourite shade.

THE BEAUTY RULES TO FOLLOW…

Less is more is a rule I’ve followed for years – that applies to skincare and make-up. I also like my complexion to look quite natural, so I’ll only ever choose one or two features – eyes or lips – to play up, leaving the rest be. I am a big fan of a very bright lip and minimal layers of mascara to keep everything fresh. Second l, I never like my hair to look too polished. So, I’ve started to embrace my natural texture and throughout these multiple lockdowns, I’ve let it air dry to keep the damage at bay. At most, I’ll blow-dry my fringe, otherwise it’s dry shampoo and a simple tong on the top layer only. Finally, my last beauty rule is to keep the brows minimal, too – bushy, but not too full on. I don’t like using a lot of pencil on the brow, so I try to embrace your natural shape instead by using clear gels – REFY’s will help you achieve that ‘soap brow’ finish everyone loves.

BEST HAIRCARE ESSENTIALS…

Kerastase’s purple shampoo and hair mask are my holy grail products for maintaining the vibrancy of my blonde. I really notice a difference when I stop using either product, with brassy tones starting to show through pretty quickly. When used simultaneously, my hair stays sleek and shiny too, without ever being oily or weighed down. For haircare, multi-taskers, like the Davines All in One Milk, are brilliant. It protects, detangles and gives hair more volume and body. As for my everyday hair staple, it has to be Klorane’s Dry Shampoo – nothing gives hair more texture and weight, plus it doesn’t leave behind that tell-tale white residue.

COMMON MAKE-UP MISTAKES…

As I’ve said, I’ve learnt to not over-pencil my eyebrows or go too dark. Likewise, going too heavy with make-up and foundation is a no-no for me. Instead, I’ve turned to tinted moisturisers that offer great coverage, like bareMinerals and NARS. They allow your skin to breathe, while also giving your complexion a dewy, healthy fresh finish.

THE ADVICE EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW…

Newsflash: you can pull off a bold lip. So many people still think they should avoid it, but it comes down to finding the right shade for you. If you like warmer tones, or you have a warmer complexion, go for richer reds rather than cool tones and vice versa. It’s important to remember bold lips doesn’t automatically mean red, either. Just something that’s vibrant and noticeable. Experiment and have fun – my motto is to have some courage when it comes to your beauty products.

THE SKINCARE SHE SWEARS BY…

There are three things I use on rotation. For starters, Paula’s Choice Glow Moisturiser Defense SPF30 – it’s the best everyday moisturiser with added protection, and it gives your skin a natural-looking glow that’s beautiful under make-up. The Erno Laszlo Sleep Mask is the best I’ve ever used, too. It’s plumping, hydrating and works. Finally, I am never without the Medik8 Hyaluronic Acid Serum – hands down, it’s the best HA product I’ve ever used. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and refreshed. The brand as a whole has become a big staple for me since I moved to London.
