“Blue eyes are surprisingly versatile when it comes to wearing colour. Mushroom brown and grey work well – think cool neutrals. To create a contrast, try bronze tones. Note that shimmer makes a look feel more evening appropriate too.” – Amy Conway, Bobbi Brown Global PRO Artist

“Try gold, rose, pink, peach, orange and bronze.  Armani Beauty’s Eye Tint Liquid Eyeshadows are a quick and easy way to add colour with a metallic finish – ‘44’, a soft rose gold, is so flattering against blue eyes. In my kit, I’m never without a NARS palette – they’re compact and feature a mix of 12 shades and textures. For blue eyes, ‘Afterglow Irresistible’ is the dream sunset palette, offering rich amber tones, golds and shimmery pinks. Brown mascara works a treat on blue eyes. I rate YSL Beauty's  Lash Clash version – rich, yet natural-looking and the iconic formula builds and defines each individual lash.” – Cher Webb, make-up artist

“Earthy tones like warm neutrals, reddish browns and coppers bring out the natural warmth of green eyes. As for mascara, swap out classic black for a deep brown or burgundy, the latter of which makes green look more vibrant. The brown version of SUQQU’s Waterproof Mascara feels chic, defining lashes while keeping the focus on your eye colour without overpowering it. Pair it with the Gel Eyeliner Pencil to enhance the lash line and waterline, too. If you’re after a more playful look, try lilac, soft purple, or even a red eyeshadow – all of which make green eyes look truly striking.” – Jorge

“Green eyes suit shades with red undertones – burgundy, mauve, plum and reddish browns, for instance. M.A.C's Eye Shadow X9 has the perfect mix of metallics, satins and mattes and is extremely flattering, as is Dior’s Diorshow 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette in ‘669 Soft Cashmere’. Burgundy or brown creates an understated lash, and Clinique'sHigh Impact Mascara in ‘Black Honey’ is just dreamy, combining deep burgundy with a classic formula. It’s limited edition, so stock up while you can. For added drama, M.A.C's Eye Kohl in ‘Costa Riche’ and Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk Eyeliner are guaranteed to make green eyes pop.” – Cher

“Jewel tones like deep purple, emerald-green and navy blue are fantastic for adding depth and definition to brown eyes. For a neutral, everyday look, khaki or warm tones such as caramel or champagne are ideal. A hint of shimmer works beautifully too, and a creamy, metallic finish gives brown eyes a stunning, glowing effect. For extra drama, try a soft brown or deep plum eyeliner. Plum, in particular, adds a subtle contrast that makes brown eyes stand out without it looking too heavy.” – Jorge Balzaretti, SUQQU senior make-up artist

“Brown eyes are so versatile and will suit virtually any colour combination. A classic nude palette that complements brown eyes is Burberry Beauty’s Eye Quad in ‘Blush Beige’, featuring soft peach, brown and a cool-toned taupe. Adding a neutral with a red undertone will create a sense of depth. The Vieve Eye Wand in ‘Mahogany’ works perfectly – start by applying the colour close to the upper lash line, buffing outwards. Take it under the lower lash line to add extra definition.” – Cher

“Hazel eyes look great with a soft matte finish and neutral tones, but another of my shade go-tos is Bobbi Brown's Longwear Cream Shadow Stick in ‘Dusty Mauve’. The lavender hues bring out the yellow tone of a hazel eye perfectly. It also has a shimmer to it which makes it soft enough for every day, but still easy to build up for evening.” – Amy

“Lean into oyster pearly tones, gold, green, violet, cranberry or magenta. Rich pink also looks amazing on hazel eyes – I love Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eyeshadows. ‘Forbidden Rose’, a deep, coppery rose, creates a simple, fuss-free eye look in seconds. Simply draw it over the lid and soften the edges with a fluffy brush. For an instant metallic effect, Stila’s Shimmer & Glow Liquid in ‘Compassionate’ looks stunning against hazel eyes, adding instant drama in one swipe.” – Cher
