Katie Jane Hughes Shares Her Skincare Secrets
The Skincare Step I’d Never Skip…
… is cleansing. For the past 15 years, I have sworn by a cleansing routine using an oil- or balm-based cleanser with a face cloth. It does a great job at prepping and priming your skin for make-up.
A Skincare Ingredient I Rate…
It’s nothing ground-breaking, but honestly, some sort of glycolic or lactic acid to just help get rid of dead skin cells. Currently, I’m using the glycolic toner from The Inkey List.
The Most Underrated Product…
A flannel! Using a face cloth or flannel when I wash my face provides gentle exfoliation, removes my make-up and helps my skincare work its best by sloughing off excess dead skin. It's a non-negotiable for me.
The At-Home Tool That Will Actually Make A Difference…
I love a good LED face mask. I use the one from Shark Beauty. It has a cryo mode for cooling the under-eye area, which I love.
A Treatment I’d Recommend …
Now and again, I get a touch of Botox from Dr Shereene Idriss in New York. I think she’s the best at what she does because she’s so light-handed and will never make you look like someone else. She also has a skincare line, so you can experience her expertise at home.
The Myth I Would Like To De-Bunk…
… is that we don’t always need 100 skincare steps to achieve results. I believe less is more, especially when it comes to the skincare we’re using under make-up.
A Throwback Beauty Product I Still Love…
Bioderma Micellar Water. It’s a simple, effective, timeless formula.
One High Street Product I Rate…
I’m currently obsessed with the Aquaphor Balm Stick. I use it on my hands to lock in moisture, on my lips when they’re dry and chapped and under my eyes when my make-up is looking crepey.
Your Lifestyle Can Be Just As Important As Skincare…
… and honestly, in my 40s, it’s sleep that makes the biggest difference to how I look and feel.
When It Comes To Prepping My Skin Before Make-Up…
…less is more. I’ll do a little serum and face cream on the high points of my face but keep it lighter where I know I’m going to powder. Over-hydrating those areas just defeats the purpose and keeping things balanced is what really helps everything sit beautifully.
