Hailing from Korea, ‘glass skin’ is one beauty trend that will probably never wane. While some trends quickly feel outdated, a crystal-clear, luminous complexion has a certain eternal appeal. It provides a fresh, dewy canvas for make-up and makes your base look that bit more seamless. When it comes to achieving that plump, glassy finish, there are a few different ways to go about it – from buzzy mucin essences to peptide-powered serums. But if you’re after something a little more heavy-duty, it might be time to bring out the big guns. 

Rated by supermodels and influencers alike, K-beauty innovator Medicube is everywhere at the moment. Known for its cutting-edge devices, in particular the Age-R Booster line, it harnesses electrical stimulation to enhance the absorption rate of active ingredients, resulting in smoother, bouncier skin.

The genius of the glow-boosting device boils down to the use of electrical energy pulses. These create temporary passageways, allowing product to penetrate deep into the skin’s layers. Unlike many other popular handheld skin devices, it doesn’t require a specialised conductive gel so you can use it alongside your favourite formulas and essentially supercharge their benefits.

The original model – Age-R Booster-H – is reported to improve the absorption rate of actives by 490%, according to the brand. Booster-H is designed to work in conjunction with topical skincare to give you that highly coveted glassy finish, but the new-and-improved version, Booster Pro, (that has been doing the rounds on TikTok), comes with an additional five settings, targeting all manner of skin concerns.

The hardworking multitasker has all the glow-enhancing benefits of the original, but also with settings for microcurrent, electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), electric needles, LED and sonic vibration. Alongside increased product absorption, it’s ideal for treating signs of ageing – think reduced lines, improved skin laxity, restored volume and boosted firmness.

For maximum efficacy, you want to use your Medicube device on freshly cleansed skin, over the top of an essence, serum or cream. The brand has some useful video tutorials that you can follow to get to grips with each of the different settings, but the key with Booster-H is to think about what you’re trying to achieve. There are three techniques: watering, which involves using the wand in circular motions with a moisturising product; boosting, gliding it over the skin’s surface with a nutrient-rich product; and focus, pressing the head on one area at a time with a mask or concentrated product. 

Booster Pro is a little more elaborate, but the principle is the same – you’re using the device on the areas of the face where you’re looking to see results. Handily, there’s a small screen so you can keep track of which mode it’s set to. You can cater your usage to suit your personal skin goals, for instance you could use the blue LED light on breakouts and the EMS setting for sculpt and lift, but essentially the user guide tells you everything you need to know about getting the most out of each of the different functions.
