Lisbon is one of Europe’s most popular destinations, but Comporta is where the fashion set goes for their summer holidays. Just 90 minutes outside of Portugal’s capital, this old fishing village offers secluded golden beaches, excellent restaurants and relaxed beach clubs. Quinta da Comporta is a top choice for families looking for spacious rooms and plenty of activities to keep little ones entertained. Styled like a traditional Portuguese farm, the hotel has two types of rooms: thatch-roof cabanas, and mock farmhouses with whitewashed walls and wooden beams. The hotel also has a 40m infinity pool, a bar, and a beautiful restaurant where guests can enjoy Mediterranean dishes made with the best local organic produce. During the summer months, there’s a kids’ club and babysitting service.

Modus Vivendi

Psematismenos, Cyprus

Modus Vivendi is a collection of self-catering suites and stone cottages in the small village of Psematismenos, between Larnaca and Lemesos. Full of character, the interiors are rustic yet chic – think stone walls, bamboo ceilings, antique four-poster beds and stylishly mismatched furniture. Terra Verte Studio and Lefko House are the top choice, with white-washed walls and modern en-suites. Kids will love playing in the pretty courtyard and swimming in the outdoor pool. Guest can also use the kitchenettes, and tuck into breakfast hampers delivered each morning and filled with local produce. Ahead of arrival, ask for your room to include cots and highchairs, as well as a selection of books and games. The local village is a short drive away, so you’ll probably want a car to get around.

Room from £97 per night.
