Where To Eat, Shop & Drink In London’s West End

Regent Street has always been one of the capital’s best shopping destinations but there’s plenty of newness to keep it feeling fresh. The big names are all here – Burberry, Mulberry and Kith among them – while SKIMS has joined the line-up this summer with its first UK standalone store. It’s a useful stretch if you’re looking to see what’s new for the season or simply need somewhere to kill an hour between appointments. For something a little more independent, slip into Quadrant Arcade, just off the main street. It has a calmer feel than Regent Street itself, with Earl of East and Aromaria among the names worth browsing, while Biogena offers a more wellness-focused pit stop. It’s also home to Compane, which makes a strong case for a coffee and something freshly baked before you head back into the crowds.
EAT & DRINK
Come lunchtime, Heddon Street is the natural next stop. The pedestrianised enclave has quietly become one of the West End’s most-loved dining destinations, with everything from the Mexican cooking at Fonda to the Punjabi-inspired food at Ambassadors Clubhouse and the Spanish and Latin American flavours of Sabor. It’s lively enough to feel like you’re out, without requiring the sort of two-hour lunch that makes the afternoon schedule impossible.
If you’re after something more classic, Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill is nearby on Swallow Street and has been a London institution for more than a century. Come for oysters, stay for lunch. Later, Bar Américain at Brasserie Zédel is a reliable choice for a cocktail, while Ronnie’s, tucked inside Kith’s Regent Street store, is the place to round out the day.

TAKE A BREAK
Think of Quadrant Arcade as your wellness retreat on Regent Street. Just off the main thoroughfare, this elegant Art Deco arcade is the place to escape the crowds, slow down and reset without actually leaving central London. Start with a wander through Aromaria, the Mexico-founded fragrance brand, before browsing the candles, bathing products and independent lifestyle finds at Earl of East. For something more restorative, Biogena brings a more science-led approach to wellbeing, with its three-floor Store & Longevity Lab offering everything from personalised nutrition advice to biohacking treatments including red light therapy and lymphatic drainage.
STAY
If a full day of shows, shopping and dinners calls for an overnight stay, The Langham is hard to beat, sitting at the top of Regent Street and within easy reach of the West End. Further down the street, Hotel Café Royal puts you neatly between Piccadilly, Soho and Mayfair, making it another useful base for a weekend of shopping, eating and generally making the most of central London. The best thing about Regent Street and St James’s at this time of year is that neither needs Fashion Week to justify a visit. But with the shows bringing the city’s fashion crowd back into town, it’s a particularly good excuse to spend a day exploring the area – preferably with lunch, shopping and a drink to finish off.
