What’s New In Ibiza This Year
W Hotel, Santa Eulalia
Its beachside restaurant, Chiringuito Blue, might have opened to great acclaim last year, but this summer the 162-bedroom W Hotel will finally open in its entirety. Billed as a new entertainment hub, W Ibiza will launch three distinct concepts designed for dining, drinking and relaxing. Alongside these, there’ll be a lively rooftop sunset bar and adults-only pool. A second pool will have direct access to the beachfront promenade and the white sands of Santa Eulalia beach. Chiringuito Blue will continue to offer sea views and an interesting food and drink menu focusing on local, sustainable produce: menus have been devised by MasterChef Israel judge Haim Cohen and include the likes of yellowtail sashimi with tomato seeds, lemon and coriander; and Andalusian-style crispy calamari.
Casa Maca, Can Palau
Casa Maca is an intimate, rural hotel located in the peaceful hills of Can Palau, just outside of Ibiza Town and within minutes of the airport. With spectacular views of the iconic Dalt Vila skyline – the ancient fortress walls, blue skies and the Mediterranean Sea – Casa Maca offers a beautiful setting to relax in. Fields of lavender frame the whitewashed main building, a 300-year-old former farmhouse that has been restored with respect to its architectural heritage. Open year-round, Casa Maca has just ten rooms to ensure total tranquility for guests, while the high-end Mediterranean restaurant welcomes both locals and visitors.
7Pines Resort, Sant Josep de Sa Talaia
The ultra-modern 7 Pines Resort opened at the end of 2018 and is now taking bookings for the summer season. This luxury resort is an ideal place to unwind – the grounds encompass Pure Seven, a 1,500sq m wellness centre inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle, which offers a range of treatments from massages to medical aesthetics. There are four restaurants and bars on site – we like the sound of the Pershing Yacht Terrace. But it’s the accommodation that’s really caught our attention: sprawling gardens surround this luxurious Ibizan-style village that offers 186 spacious one- and two-bedroom suites. Many come with private pools and cliff-top views of the sea.
Casa Cook, San Antonio
Opening late summer 2019, Casa Cook is the latest of Thomas Cook’s award-winning collection of boutique hotels, designed with the postmodern traveller in mind. Set on the western shores of San Antonio, the 189-rooms retreat will offer luxury in its purest form. Blending minimalism with Mediterranean living, the hideaway will build on the dramatic local landscape. Concrete walls and timber screens will cut through the terrain creating contrasts between light and shadow, forming spaces that invite you to lounge and linger. Expect a yoga garden, pool, two restaurants – one with locally-inspired cuisine and one focused on vegan offerings – plus a contemporary bar and lounge area.
Safragell Ibiza, Sant Llorenç de Balàfia
Located in one of the most unspoilt places on the island, Safragell Ibiza preserves the architecture of traditional Ibizan country houses, and adds modernity. Safragell Ibiza has twelve bedrooms, distributed between three buildings – the whitewashed walls, high ceilings and large rooms make for an unforgettable place to relax. All rooms have private areas for guests to enjoy the idyllic scenery – think fruit gardens, Mediterranean vegetation, and views of the bell tower of the historic church of Sant Llorenç – in maximum privacy.
Bless Hotel Ibiza, Cala Nova
Bless Hotel is set to open its second Spanish property this summer. With an exclusive beachfront location on Cala Nova, the cosmopolitan hotel will be located just 25 minutes from Ibiza’s city centre and 30 minutes from its international airport. Hotel facilities will include a sky lounge, pool bar, two infinity pools, a spa and gym. There will be 151 bedrooms and suites, each with elegant décor inspired by Coco Chanel. Each will come with a furnished balcony or terrace, offering views of the Mediterranean Sea.
RESTAURANTS & BARS
Keto Kitchen, Santa Gertrudis
Inspired by the ‘Ketogenic’ diet, Keto Kitchen is a fully sugar-free and low-carb restaurant located in Santa Gertrudis. Opened in February 2019, here the team serves fresh, organic and vegetarian dishes that perfectly fit into a healthy lifestyle. Expect Instagrammable pancake stacks, aromatic curries and moreish chocolate cake – all made healthy.
Beso Beach Ibiza, Playa de ses Salines
Originally a Formenterra institution, Beso Beach Ibiza is surrounded by white sand and crystal-clear sea. Given its proximity to the water, guests can expect to sample plenty of fresh seafood cooked Mediterranean style (with a hint of Basque influence). Expect the rustic cabana to transform into a chilled-out party pad once dinner service is over.
La Cala Gracioneta, San Antonio
This secluded cove is one of the area's hidden gems. From the crystal-clear waters to the rustic interiors and simple menu, there's no wonder some of Ibiza's original DJs head here for some time out. This year, there’s a new head chef. Start with a plate of padron peppers and a glass of rosé before moving on to sharing plates of local fish cooked on the open grill, and one of the epic paellas. You'll love it for its warm, friendly atmosphere, and chilled back tunes.
Can Pincho, Jesus
Can Pincho is a new restaurant that’s just opened in Jesus. A cool space with a great crowd, this tapas bar is the brainchild of chef Mikel Astorga, who’s previously worked with greats such as Ángel León, Martín Berasategui and Albert Adrià. Expect a relaxed take on a gourmet pinchos bar, where Basque inspiration has been adapted to the Ibizan palate: think tortillas, homemade croquettes and sirloin with fresh foie gras. Beyond pinchos, there’s a small menu ideal for sharing as a couple or for group dinners.
Mikasa, Ibiza Old Town
This new Lebanese restaurant and hotel is located on the marina of Old Town Ibiza. Set beside the water, Mikasa serves authentic Lebanese cuisine and exquisite sharing plates based around natural, nourishing and wholesome ingredients. From the open-air roof terrace, guests can sample a selection of cocktails and enjoy an uninterrupted view of Ibiza Old Town.
Hï Ibiza, Playa d'en Bossa
This year, superstar DJ David Guetta has a brand-new home at Hï Ibiza. Following his 15-year residency on Thursday nights at Pascha, F*** ME I'M FAMOUS! will now take place every Friday at Hï Ibiza. This new chapter begins on 7th June and will run throughout the summer until 4th October. Make sure to book ahead for some of the best VIP offerings in town.
#MERKY Festival, San Antonio
In just two years #MERKY has become one of the hottest festival tickets of the summer, bringing together a community of UK urban music fans and the biggest names in the scene for a holiday experience like no other. Now in its third year, Stormzy will arrive straight from his historic Glastonbury headline set to an official #MERKY after-party in Ibiza. Expect two all-day events with poolside performances, all curated and headlined by the man himself.
Amnesia, San Antonio
This summer, Cocoon returns to Amnesia. Run by Sven Väth, the long-running techno party moved to Pacha last year after 18 seasons at Amnesia. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Cocoon will return to its former home for ten Monday parties. The first party takes place on 27th May.
Lamuella, Ibiza Town
Lamuella is a little bit of everything –fine-dining restaurant, art gallery and boutique – all in the same luxe space in San Lorenzo. This year, the team has opened up a second shop in Ibiza Town. From cover-ups to homeware, beach bags, kaftans and jewellery, this is the perfect spot to pick up a souvenir or accessory for the night ahead.
Cotton Fitness Club, San Antonio
Cotton Fitness Club is Ibiza’s first beach club dedicated to health. This May it will launch its first Cotton Fitness Retreat series, offering a four- or five-day fitness, wellbeing and gastronomy adventure.
