13 Summer Pop-Ups To Know About

From a pale pink shipping container stocked with goods from Spring at Somerset House, to a pizza pop-up from Professor Green and Gizzi Erskine, here are the new ways to dine out in the capital this summer.

Gizz & Green’s x Passo

After the success of their weekly lockdown Instagram mini-series ‘Giz & Green’s Monday Night Fakeaway’, where musician Professor Green was taught how to make his favourite takeaways by chef Gizzi Erskine, Giz & Green has taken over Old Street’s popular Italian-inspired restaurant Passo. Highlights from the menu include the classic Hawaiian, pepperoni and veggie ‘stuffed crust’ pizzas (all Anglo-American, deep-dish, stuffed-crust style), with dough made from the highest quality white rye sourdough and sourced from local bakery hero Breadstation. All other ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, while Dalston’s Soda Co. soft drinks will all be available. The menu is available to eat in (bookings and walk-ins are on offer), take-out and delivery – and, due to popular demand, has just been extended until the end of September.

Spring In Summer

Skye Gyngell has launched ‘Spring In Summer’ – a pale pink shipping container in the courtyard of Somerset House, serving ice-cream and other treats throughout the rest of the summer. Refreshments include seasonal ice-cream flavours like peach or lemon and josterberry ripple, which can be eaten in cones, tubs or freshly baked brioche buns; granitas with softly whipped Heckfield Home Farm cream; and ice lollies in flavours such as fior di latte or elderflower. Guests can also expect to sample toasted sandwiches made with Spring’s homemade sourdough – fillings will include prosciutto cotto with Montgomery cheddar and wholegrain mustard; and Neals Yard Dairy three cheeses with sage butter. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out some of the gallery’s newly reopened spaces, including its critically acclaimed free exhibition Mushrooms: The Art, Design and Future of Fungi, which has been extended throughout the summer.

Returning to his former home in the old Dock Kitchen site on Portobello Docks, chef Stevie Parle has opened an outdoor summer restaurant designed to make the most of late summer and seasonal British produce. A collaborative project alongside designer Tom Dixon and gardener Arthur Parkinson, the space overlooks Regent’s Canal, with a range of activities on offer. Enjoy a drink at a standalone bar; shop fresh produce directly from The Goods Shed and eat at Flora, a 70-cover restaurant. There’s also a wine shop on site from Uncharted, and a beer shop from BierCraft. The space is open Wednesday to Sunday, and serves weekend brunches from 10am, and an all-day menu from 12pm to 10pm. Finally, to give something back, Joy is working with a number of local charities to deliver fresh and delicious raw ingredients to those in need. Guests will also be given the option to ‘pay it forward’ by adding a vegetable box to their bill for Joy to donate on their behalf.
