11 Style Rules From A Glamorous Influencer

Fer Millán Delaroière is one of the coolest, most glamorous women on Instagram. Unafraid to embrace trends and experiment with her favourite pieces, her colourful and unique approach to fashion makes her just that little bit different – which is why we jumped at the chance to hear her style rules…

Dress according to your mood. I only like wearing outfits that reflect my inner state. I also like analysing trends and understanding which designers are leaning into what, but I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself to be seen in the latest pieces – you have to find your own mood and your own style.

Add jewellery to take your look to the next level. If it has some history, an anecdote or personal meaning attached to it, it will add allure and elegance – even if it's something small. It’s all in the details.

Start with one piece and build your outfit from there. I always have one thing in mind – be it a bag, a shirt or shoes – athen I’ll experiment with different combinations, depending on how extravagant I want to be that day. The idea is to ensure everything is working in harmony.

Have fun with trends – and not just current ones. I love watching fashion documentaries for fresh inspiration. Think about what grabs your attention – a personal favourite trend of mine is borrowing from the boys.

Don’t let layers ruin an outfit. It’s difficult to looks stylish on colder days but I suggest choosing what you want to wear – regardless of the weather – and then working with it. For example, I might choose a silky slip dress then add a cool Marine Serre jumpsuit underneath – it’s impactful, fashion forward and keeps you warm.

Invest in timeless outerwear with a bit of personality. Chanel is a great example. While it doesn't come cheap, the brand’s aesthetic will never go out of style. I recently bought myself a vintage Chanel jacket from the 90s and I know I’ll wear it for the rest of my life.

Follow a couple of rules with colour. Saturated colours call for a better fabric than neutrals, so it pays to invest. Also, bolder colours are harder to mix and match with the rest of your wardrobe, so make sure you take the time to put together a couple combinations in your head before you purchase anything.

Find the one piece that always works for you. I can’t explain it, but platforms always make me feel strong and happy. There's something about killer footwear that really excites me – there’s a pair of embellished Chanel boots at the top of my wish list right now that I can’t stop thinking about, along with the heeled sneakers from Miu Miu. I love polarising love-hate shoes.

The secret to great style is INNER CONFIDENCE. Wear what gives you strength and what best REPRESENTS YOUR PERSONALITY.

Shop sustainably where possible. Sustainability is the new luxury and a lot of brands have made it their goal to be more eco-friendly. As consumers, we can also do our best to interact with the circular economy by buying and selling clothes second hand. It’s become far more normal now, and it’s so interesting to find out where pieces have come from and what their history is.

Find a style icon. I love Audrey Hepburn – not in Breakfast at Tiffany’s but in Two For The Road. Her look in that film was so futuristic. She wore pieces from Paco Rabanne, Pierre Cardin and Courrèges – but in 1967. I admire the audacity of that era. On Instagram, I love how creative and free the Gen-Z influencers are. They’re so good at blending their personalities and disregarding the rules.

The secret to great style is inner confidence. Wear what gives you strength and what best represents your personality. When you love what you’re wearing – because it feels like you – that’s when you’ve nailed it.
