10 Great Gin Cocktails To Make At Home

This Saturday marks World Gin Day – the perfect excuse to open a bottle of one of our favourite spirits and try a new cocktail. From a rose spritz to a basil smash, here are ten easy gin-based drinks to make at home.

Grapefruit & Thyme Gin Cocktail, Mirabeau

INGREDIENTS

  • 60ml of Mirabeau gin

  • 60ml of Mirabeau Prêt-à-Porter rosé

  • 15ml of sugar syrup

  • 120ml of pink grapefruit juice

  • A couple of sprigs of fresh thyme

METHOD

  1. Add the gin and roughly chopped thyme to an ice filled shaker. Let it infuse for a minute. 

  2. Add the rosé, sugar syrup and grapefruit juice. Shake well to release essential oils from thyme. 

  3. Double strain into a coupe or a tumbler. 

  4. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.

Spritz En Provence, Mirabeau

INGREDIENTS

  • 35ml of Mirabeau Rosé Gin

  • 12.5ml of elderflower cordial

  • 3 dashes of rose water

  • 100ml-120ml Mirabeau La Folie sparkling rosé

METHOD

  1. Add all the ingredients except La Folie to an ice-filled shaker. Shake to blend flavours. 

  2. Fill a wine glass/spritz glass with ice. 

  3. Strain the mixture into glasses. Crown with La Folie and stir gently again. 

  4. Garnish with lavender sprigs or rose petals and a slice of lemon.

Sofa Spritz, Caorunn

INGREDIENTS

  • 50ml of Caorunn gin

  • 50ml of pressed apple juice

  • 100ml of soda water

  • 50ml of sparkling white wine

  • Red apple slices, to garnish

METHOD

Build all ingredients in a wine glass with cubed ice. Garnish with an apple slice.

Rose Spritz, Bombay Sapphire

INGREDIENTS

  • 50ml of Bombay Sapphire gin

  • 100ml of elderflower tonic

  • 25ml of Martini Rosato vermouth

  • 2 orange wedges

METHOD

  1. Gently squeeze the orange wedges into a balloon glass.

  2. Add the vermouth and gin.

  3. Fill the glass with cubed ice, stir and mix.

  4. Gently top with chilled premium elderflower tonic.

  5. Stir with a bar spoon to combine all ingredients

Gin Basil Smash, Mother Knows Best

INGREDIENTS

  • 50ml of gin 

  • 20ml of lemon juice

  • 20ml of syrup (one part sugar and one part water)

  • A bunch of fresh herbs such as mint, basil or rosemary

  • Seasonal fruit like strawberries, raspberries, peaches, grapes or pineapple

METHOD

  1. Build all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. 

  2. Shake and strain into rocks glass filled with ice.

Velvette Fogg, Dishoom

INGREDIENTS

  • 25ml of Black Cow vodka 

  • 25ml of coffee liqueur 

  • 1 scoop of chai ice-cream 

  • Chocolate powder, to garnish 

METHOD

  1. Add vodka and coffee liqueur to a rocks glass and stir. 

  2. Add scoop of ice cream and garnish a sprinkle of chocolate powder.

The Estate Martini, Gleneagles Hotel

INGREDIENTS

  • 60ml of South Loch Raspberry Old Tom gin

  • 5ml of elderflower cordial

  • 15ml of raspberry leaf-infused vermouth

METHOD

  1. Add the gin, vermouth, elderflower and ice together in a mixing glass and stir to combine.

  2. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a lemon peel.

Fiery Gin-ger, The Athenaeum Hotel

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bottle of Fever-Tree Mexican lime soda

  • 50ml of Sipsmith Chilli & Lime gin

  • 20ml of agave syrup

  • 10ml of lime juice

  • 1 slice of fresh ginger

  • 1 handful of fresh mint leaves

  • Cubed ice

 METHOD

  1. Take a fresh slice of ginger and score it with a criss-cross pattern then place it into a tall glass.

  2. Muddle the ginger until it releases juice and add a small handful of mint leaves, then muddle again.

  3. Add the gin, agave syrup and lime juice.

  4. Shake then strain into a glass with a generous handful of ice cubes.

  5. Top up with the soda.

  6. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a slice of ginger.

French 75, Monkey 47

INGREDIENTS

  • 30ml of Monkey 47 gin

  • 2 dashes of sugar syrup 

  • 15ml of lemon juice

  • 60ml of champagne

METHOD

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

2. Combine the gin, syrup, and lemon juice and place in the cocktail shaker.

3. Shake vigorously, then strain into an iced champagne glass.

5. Top up with champagne.

6. Stir gently and enjoy.

Frozen Pink Daiquiri, Beefeater

INGREDIENTS

  • 50ml of Beefeater Pink gin

  • 25ml of lime juice

  • 12.5ml of sugar syrup

  • 6-8 frozen strawberries

METHOD

1. Add all ingredients to a blender with 2 cubes of ice.

2. Serve in a rocks glass and garnish with strawberry slices and a lime wheel.
