7am
The first thing I do when I wake up is look at my phone. My alarm wakes me up, so once I’ve switched it off, I am checking my texts. I have family in Canada and the States, so because of the time difference they have usually texted during the night. I have a blocker app on my phone called Refocus that helps me stay off social media. I put on Classical FM as I find it a really calming way to start the day. I have my first decaf coffee with oat milk around 7.30am. Seeing as I’m pregnant right now, I’m trying not to let my glucose levels spike, so I have a handful of nuts first.
8am
I am a slow mover in the morning. After making coffee I have some time to chill with my husband before he heads off to work. Once he’s left, I head to our home gym and work out. I exercise five or six times a week for 30 minutes. Lululemon is my go-to brand for workout gear; everything is so soft and comfortable, and its leggings always make your bum look amazing. I do TPC by Jacqui Kingswell – it’s an online programme that’s run out of LA.
I hop straight in the shower after working out. I use a Korean skincare mitten to exfoliate, as it leaves my skin feeling super soft. My favourite body wash is by Aveeno. On my face I use The Ordinary products because you can get really specific with ingredients, and I have a problem with scarring which I find it helps with. I start with the glycolipid cream cleanser followed by the cold press rosehip oil and niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% serum. I wet my hair every day and wash it once a week using the OrganiGrow conditioner as a detangler. I dry my hair with a microfibre towel, as I find it soaks up all the water from my hair without drying it out. On my body, I’m currently using the Weleda stretch mark oil – I don’t have any stretch marks yet, so I think it’s working.
9am
Smoothies are my favourite thing to make for breakfast. I have a Vitamix, so I chuck in some blueberries, raspberries, bananas, Greek yoghurt and oat milk. I listen to the New York Times’ Headlines podcast – it’s only eight minutes long, so it doesn't feel like a huge commitment. I also love to play Sudoku. After 30 minutes, I start to get ready for my day.
My aim when I’m getting dressed is to be comfortable but with a fashionable edge. During pregnancy, I have been wearing a lot of JW Anderson because it’s never going to go out of style. The Frankie Shop is also brilliant for basics. I’ve also been wearing a lot of Amy Lynn’s dropped-waist dresses as they are super flattering. Sandro is also great for a bit of colour and sparkle. I have been really into dressing my bump, so naturally Rihanna would be my style icon – she never got it wrong during her pregnancy.
10.30am
I jump in a taxi to go to my podcast studio, The Podshop in Shoreditch. I will have my headphones in for the half-hour journey to listen to some old-school classics from Aretha Franklin. Once I get to the studio, it’s time to record for an hour at a time with different guests. My podcast is about hearing people's stories about what they find hopeful in their life and work, and how they got there. It was inspired by my documentary Blue Carbon, which is about the climate crisis and the hopeful aspects of fighting climate change. The studio is very inviting; I wanted it to feel homely. It’s a neutral and put-together aesthetic, with a large comfy couch, wooden cabinets and large plants. When it comes to work, I am hyper focused, bordering on a workaholic. I think that comes with the self-employed territory.
1pm
Everyone who works with me knows I love Pret for lunch. When I’m on tour, my Pret order is crazy – I am stockpiling food because I want to make sure there are always snacks. The Greek salad, with the egg and spinach pot, mango pot and the watermelon pot is a new combo I love. We are close to Bubala too, so it’s great to pop in there sometimes. It's the best vegetarian restaurant in Shoreditch. I try to take a full hour for lunch and check my emails. Because I work in music, most people haven’t woken up until about 11am, so I don’t have too much to catch up on. In the afternoon after recording at 4pm, I take Zoom meetings
6pm
I am a huge homebody. When I get home, I start cooking dinner – usually something healthy for my husband and I like frittatas with lots of veg. While I’m cooking, I am listening to all my favourite podcasts. I love Trevor Noah as he makes me laugh out loud. Other favourites include Is it Normal? and Unlocking Us. I am late to the game, but TV-wise I have been watching Abbott Elementary – I am that person who watches a show a year after everyone else. Mostly, I enjoy reading in the evenings. I am currently reading The Overstory by Richard Powers. His new book comes out in September which I’m really excited about.
10.30pm
Finally, I stretch for 30 minutes before bed. I find it really helps with a great night's sleep. Then I do my night-time skincare routine, using the same products from the morning. I braid my hair and put in my homemade oil, which contains almond, peppermint, caster and rosehip oils. I use it with the OrganiGrow scalp serum. On my bedside table I have a Laneige sleeping mask in Berry – the only flavour I like – and Dr Hauschka eye balm. The Ikea Symfonisk lamp is a speaker and lamp in one, and I find it useful. I listen to a mediation podcast to fall asleep . I’m into hypnobirthing right now, as I am trying to become as zen as possible before the birth. Pop That Mumma by Poppy Childs has lots of positive affirmations around birth. I play it on a low volume on my phone until I fall asleep.
