My Wellness Toolkit: Tiffany Youngs

Here, we ask industry experts to share the supplements and wellness essentials they can’t be without. From the vitamins they rely on for optimal immunity to the products that help them switch off after a busy day, we go behind-the-scenes to discover what keeps these women in peak health.

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

Six years ago, Tiffany Youngs was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and four years later, was given just four weeks to live. Determined to support her recovery in any way possible, Tiffany started researching alternative therapies and, miraculously, was declared cancer-free just ten months later. Last year, Tiffany set up Roots Wellness, an online wellness emporium that stocks everything from CBD tinctures to toxin-free cleaning products – products Tiffany believes helped her on her path to recovery. Here’s how she keeps her health on track today…

When it comes to supplements, it pays to do your research. The supplements world can be overwhelming, with lots of brands appearing to be trustworthy, yet offering a poorly-made product. Some of the brands I rate include Advanced Nutrition Programme, The Nue. Co, WelleCo and BEAR. WelleCo’s products have been a particular revelation of late, and have made a huge difference to my skin, hair and nails. WelleCo’s Super Elixir Greens is also one to try – it contains over 40 natural ingredients, including wholefoods, herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals and probiotics. I’ve also been taking glucosamine, a supplement my husband (Tom Youngs, an England rugby player) has taken for some time now. It helps boost my immune system when I’m feeling under the weather.

Supplements should always be free from plastic. For this reason, I only take sprays, drops or tablets that don’t have a plastic covering. I don’t like the thought of putting plastic-coated tablets into my body as I see them as toxic.

CBD always gets my vote. Whether it’s taking CBD in the form of drops, gummies, bath salts or a balm, it’s something I take regularly. CBD helps in numerous ways – from easing symptoms of anxiety and depression to acne, heart disease, cancer relief, pain, sleep and stress. The CBD we stock on the site is expensive, but this reflects its quality – it’s vital that CBD is clean, responsibly made and well-researched. If you are new to CBD, it’s best to start on a lower dose and build up your tolerance – both Apothem and Aire offer drops with different strengths, which makes this easy to understand. Dr Ed, which we also stock, is another great brand offering more specific products, such as CBD for energy, PMS and a low libido.

A multivitamin is a great foundation. I used to take Advanced Nutrition Programme’s Skin Vitality 1, but since the start of the pandemic I now take their Immunity Intelligence support pack, which contains added colostrum and vitamins A, C and D. I also take their Vitamin C Plus, omega-3 fish oils, glutamine powder and Digest Pro – it’s a fantastic brand with real science behind it.

Omega oils are also a brilliant daily supplement. Like CBD, omegas can help in various ways – they can help fight depression and anxiety; aid sleep, soothe your skin; boost memory; lower blood pressure; and ease PMS.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I took my health for granted. Before my diagnosis, I never used to take any vitamins. Now, I recommend a good multivitamin to my pregnant friends, ideally one you can take before, during and after your pregnancy – Advanced Nutrition Programme’s Skin Vitality 1 and Omega-3s are great to take on a daily basis. You may also want to consider taking a prebiotic if you are expecting – Skin Youth Biome is brilliant.

Regular colonics are part of my wellness regime. I have one every six weeks. They are a fantastic way to remove toxins that have built up in the body over time, which can have a knock-on effect on your skin and weight.

Keep your cabinet stocked with immune-boosting remedies. If I feel like I’m coming down with the sniffles, I’ll make a hot lemon with Manuka honey, turmeric and ginger. If I need an extra boost, I’ll also take some Zinger Shots and The Nue. Co’s Defence Drops, which are a blend of echinacea and adaptogens.

If you struggle to wind down in the evening, a routine can help. Every night, I take Apothem’s Lights Out CBD drops (one of our bestsellers) after drinking a mug of hot lemon, Manuka honey and ginger. If I’m feeling particularly stressed, I’ll add CBD salts to my evening bath, too. I also rate WelleCo’s Sleep Tea – it’s soothing and delicious.

Regular colonics are part of my wellness regime. I have one every six weeks. They are a fantastic way to remove toxins that have built up in the body over time, which can have a knock-on effect on your skin and weight. Every time I have a colonic, I see the benefits – fewer headaches, clearer skin, better circulation, a stronger immune system and improved energy levels. I also take probiotics daily – The Nue Co.’s Prebiotic + Probiotic is my go-to.

Organic skincare is a must. Everything I use on my skin, including my make-up, is organic. I couldn’t live without Jane Iredale’s collection. I always use an organic face sponge and back scrub and try to do plenty of dry brushing throughout the week, which is great for circulation. I also love anything from Neal’s Yard

A chemical-free house is also important. Finding eco cleaning products that actually worked was a big part of my recovery from cancer. Tincture is the brand to know – the whole range is well-priced and the products not only smell great, but they work efficiently, too.

Mindfulness keeps me sane. Throughout the week, I do breathing exercises, stretching, yoga, Pilates and lots of meditation. I sometimes use the Calm app, but mainly work with an incredible therapist called Imogen Harding. I also have treatments to help balance my chakras, which helps me meditate in other ways. Even if it’s just a few breathing exercises at night, it’s important to take a few minutes for yourself each day.

Getting in the fresh air clears my head. Whether it’s walking the dog, riding a bike or going for a jog, I love being outdoors – it’s the best thing for my mind. I love going to the beach to clear my head with some green tea in a flask – feeling the heat between my hands and the cold on my face is so powerful.
