The SheerLuxe Team Reveal Their Dream Cars

“My dream car is a black Mercedes G-Wagon. I’ve always loved the way they look – they’re bold, luxurious and have such a strong presence. For me, it’s one of those cars that feels glamorous while still being practical, and the all-black version would definitely be my choice. My best driving experiences are usually when I’ve got a good playlist on, the roads are clear and I can just enjoy the drive – especially on a road trip with family or friends. When I lived in LA, my sister and I drove to San Francisco along the Pacific Coast Highway and it’s still one of my favourite driving memories. The views were incredible but it was also about enjoying the journey together. There’s something about being on the road with your favourite people that makes even an ordinary drive more special.

“I’m definitely more of a clean-car girl. I like my car to be a relaxing space – although realistically, there will probably be an extra pair of heels somewhere in the boot! When I’m buying a car, I look for something that feels comfortable and safe but still looks good. I want something I’m genuinely excited to see parked outside. Practicality matters, but that little bit of luxury definitely wins out.”

“My dream car is a Suzuki Jimny, ideally in sage green. I feel like my entire Instagram FYP is just cool girls driving 4x4s somewhere beautiful, so naturally I’ve convinced myself I need one. Our Editor-in-Chief Charlotte Collins and I send each other weekly inspiration about customising the interior.

“I love the idea of having a car that’s actually made for going on adventures: driving somewhere for sunset, heading off for a weekend in the country or exploring the British coast, throwing a TentBox on the roof and disappearing for a few days. It’s not really about having the fanciest car – I just want something that makes you want to get in and go. I also love how retro the Jimny looks. 

“My best driving experience was in a Jeep Wrangler – my second dream car after a Jimny – driving up the coast of Australia, stopping to swim in the sea before getting back in the car and driving on as the sun was setting. It’s one of those drives you never forget.

“I want my car to look nice, but if there’s a bit of sand, mud or camping gear in the back, that’s probably a good sign. When buying a car, I look for personality, practicality and whether it makes me want to plan a trip with it. I want the car to be part of the adventure rather than just something that gets me from A to B.”

“My dream car is a vintage Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet in black. In a word, it’s just sexy. I remember the scene in Love & Other Drugs where Jake Gyllenhaal drives alongside the bus in his Ray-Ban aviators and thinking, that’s the car for me. I’d go for a light tan interior and silver hardware. Miriam Flatau also posts a lot of content with one and every time I see it, I think it’s the most beautiful shape. It’s really stood the test of time.

“There are two drives I’ll never forget. The first was from Malibu to Santa Barbara, meandering along the coast with the wind in my hair and my hands out of the window. It was the first time I’d seen that stretch of coastline and I remember feeling like I was in a movie. The other was driving from New York City upstate to the Catskills. The scenery changes so dramatically in such a short space of time, from the energy and chaos of the city to this completely different, almost cinematic landscape. I love that about driving: you can leave one world behind and suddenly find yourself somewhere that feels miles away.

“I love a good road trip playlist. Weirdly, it’s the only place I really listen to music properly. It has to be upbeat – the kind of music that instantly makes you happy and makes you want to dance in the car. Sometimes a particular song can take me straight back to exactly where I was on a journey years later; it’s almost like creating a soundtrack to your holiday.”

"I don’t often drive myself but I’ve spent enough time as a self-proclaimed passenger princess to know what makes a great car. I’ve always loved a Defender, specifically the smaller Defender 90 in Metallic Sondwana Stone. It’s cool enough for London, practical enough for weekends away and just as at home on a European road trip. Rugged but still chic, it ticks every box.

"Next would be an electric Porsche – sporty but the ultimate fashion-girl car. The new Cayenne Electric has some particularly clever tech, including optional wireless charging: park over a special floor plate and it charges without plugging in. You can also use your phone as a digital key, which feels like one less thing to lose at the bottom of your bag. Style aside, it’s those clever little details that really sell it to me.

"Finally, I was lucky enough to have the use of a Bentley Bentayga for a long weekend and it's slightly ruined all other cars for me. It’s enormous, luxurious and alarmingly fast for something that size. My dream, though, would be a Continental GT Speed – preferably in Morning Mist with cream and chocolate-brown details. It's where old-school glamour meets serious performance."

“My dream car is a Range Rover – specifically the new line in Narvik Black with a Perlino interior. I inherited my love of cars from my dad, who was mad about retro models and always rated Range Rovers above everything else. I’ve since come round to his way of thinking: they’re classic, have real presence on the road and they’re fast.

“Driving is really nostalgic for me. When I lived in Australia, some of my happiest memories were in the car, driving down the coast with the music blaring. Australia is where I learned how much freedom comes with having a car, especially when you’re covering serious distances. That’s partly why I want something big – I come from a large family, so I’m usually ferrying several people around at once. But it has to feel safe, elegant and, truthfully, a bit sexy too.

“Do I have the budget for this? Absolutely not. But in my head, it’s the perfect car. It’s stylish but practical enough to take to the beach and cart dogs around, and technically one of the best off-roaders out there. As soon as I got my own car, I became a clean-car girl too, spending Sunday afternoons washing and vacuuming it – so I know I’d look after it too.”

“My dream car would be a 1968 Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda. I’ve always loved a navy car – there’s something so chic and understated about it – and I’d go for a tan interior. It reminds me of a car my husband and I had before we had kids. We used to head off on long country drives with no real plan, just enjoying being out on the road together. It feels like such a romantic, carefree time.

“We actually drove that car to our wedding in the south of France and then spent our honeymoon driving around with our one-year-old. The scenery was incredible and there was something so special about being able to just get in the car and explore – winding through little villages, stopping wherever we fancied and taking in the landscape. It felt incredibly free.

“That’s why the Pagoda appeals to me so much now. It’s beautiful but it also brings back that feeling of adventure. If I was lucky enough to own one, it would be my pride and joy. I’d keep it absolutely immaculate – unlike my current family car, which needs cleaning on a regular basis!”

“My dream car is fully autonomous and AI-driven – ideally without a steering wheel because I don’t even want the option. I can’t drive and, more importantly, I genuinely believe this is in the public interest. I’ve always had this very strong feeling that if I were put behind the wheel of a car, at some point I would endanger someone. I don’t know why everyone is so keen for me to ‘just learn’!

“The good news is I’m an absolutely phenomenal passenger. I can choose the music, manage the temperature, Google the destination, locate a restaurant en route and occasionally announce, ‘I think you need to be in that lane’ with absolutely no qualifications whatsoever.

“So my dream car is one of those completely autonomous robotaxis where AI does everything and I simply get in and behave like a minor member of the royal family. No parking. No reversing. No motorway lanes. No one asking me to ‘watch the cyclist’. The computer watches the cyclist. That’s literally why I hired it.

“Ideally, it would know where I’m going before I do, understand that ‘I’m five minutes away’ means I haven’t left yet and have the air-con pre-set to my exact specifications. Some people dream of a Ferrari. I dream of removing myself entirely from the driving process. For everyone’s safety.”
