Quick Fire Beauty Questions With Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber’s fan base adore her sense of style – but her beauty looks are just as coveted. It’s no surprise then – thanks to her honest approach to skincare and natural make-up – BareMinerals has snapped her up as their latest brand ambassador. Here, she sat down with SheerLuxe to chat the latest treatments, her best beauty advice and the products she’s never without.

The best beauty advice I’ve ever been given is… to take a ‘less is more’ approach. I’ve been given heaps of advice over the years, but this is what’s stuck with me. Another tip is to use barrier-repairing skincare for extra protection and hydration. This is so important, especially now we’re all wearing face coverings.

In the morning, my routine is simple. I splash my face with warm water, and because my skin is incredibly sensitive, I don’t like to slather too many products on after that. As long as I get my EltaMD SPF on my face, I’m happy.

The beauty look I love is… dewy, natural, glowing skin. I often pair this with a neutral lip and eye, then I’m good to go. Simplicity is key.

My make-up bag is never without… a good lip balm, a silky highlighter and a thickening brow gel. Aquaphor do the best lip balms around and you can get them everywhere.

I have never slept in my make-up. Every night before bed I will always do a thorough, double cleanse. I’ve honestly never gone to bed with a scrap on – I pride myself on this. I could be super drunk and it’s still all coming off. It’s important to let your skin breathe.

My two most used make-up items are… both from BareMinerals. First up the Strength & Length Mascara, but also their Original Liquid Concealer. I’d love to list endless brands, but honestly their make-up is what I use on repeat. They’re always coming out with new things that are innovative and cool.

The last product I finished was… BareMineral’s Strength & Length Brow Gel. I’ve honestly gone through three bottles of it as it helps to stimulate hair growth, too. Plus, because we’re all wearing face coverings, the eye area is the only bit people see, so I’ve focused my make-up application here, mainly.

There are two fragrances I love. I really like Ariana Grande’s perfumes – that’s not a joke – I think they smell amazing, plus they’re fun and playful. I do like to switch up the perfumes I wear on a regular basis though, as I get bored of them quite easily. Another fragrance brand I love is Ex Nihilio – they do some beautiful, unique scents.

When it comes to beauty treatments… I’ll try anything unless it’s harmful or really crazy. I’m a big believer in starting young with anti-ageing (providing it’s not harsh), so every five months I have PRP [Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy]. They take blood from your arm, spin it into a machine to create your own plasma, then microneedle roll it into your face. In terms of extreme treatments, that’s probably the furthest I’ve gone. It really works to stimulate good glow, and it’s all coming from your own body.

I’ve tried the same thing for better hair growth, too. I’ve done this exact same treatment on my scalp twice. However, it actually hurt so much I don’t think I can ever do it again, but it did work. I gave it a go after I had a bald patch appear after wearing an extremely tight ponytail.

My hair is so much healthier as a result of the pandemic. It’s because I’ve left it to its own devices and not dyed it in almost a year – aside from touching up the front slightly – but I really don’t care for highlights anymore.

Even so, I swear by prenatal supplements. I’ve gone through a lot of trial and error with supplements for healthy hair, but prenatal vitamins have been the most helpful. I can’t take biotin – if I do, I get really painful, deep breakouts. Most hair supplements marketed for growth don’t work for me, so I’ve been using prenatal vitamins for a while now as they give you essential nutrients, while keeping your skin and hair in great condition.

Day-to-day, slicked back hair is my go-to style. Most of the time it’s because I have about four different oils or masks in there and I like to let it sit. I’ll apply loads – castor oil, coconut oil and also Christophe Robin’s lovely nourishing formulas. I like to load my hair with hydrating products, put it up in a bun for two days and let everything absorb.

If I could give other people some beauty advice… it would be to take a gentler approach – especially when you’re younger. We’re prone to acne in our teens – when I was younger, I struggled with it myself – so my advice is to keep everything simple. Putting harsh acids and exfoliants on your skin may help take things down short-term, but long-term, you’re really hurting your skin’s protective barrier.

A relaxing bath is the key to switching off… I love using CBD bath bombs from a spa in LA called Pellequr. They’re closed right now because of the pandemic, but they sell the best pampering products, like thick, Korean body scrubs. I love Epsom salts, too, and I’ll line up candles around the bath and light them all for a relaxing ambience. Finally, my husband and I pick a time each night where our phones go down before bedtime – it helps you unwind and get ready for a good night’s sleep.
