A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder, BBC

New on BBC iPlayer this week is a new six-part series based on Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder. Set in a sleepy Somerset town in the summer holidays, teenager Pip Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers, Wednesday) is focused on an unusual school project – a missing schoolgirl. In a fight for justice, and to help clear someone’s name, Pip scratches the surface of her seemingly innocuous town and reveals secrets she couldn’t have imagined.

Wimbledon 2024 starts today. The first round continues in the men's and ladies' singles, with BBC broadcasters commentating on the action live from the All England Club. All eyes will be on British number ones, Katie Boulter and Jack Draper – who recently climbed the rankings after beating Cameron Norrie and finishing in a strong position following his matches at Queen’s.

Ahead of this year’s Olympics, Netflix’s new documentary follows athletes from all over the world to find out what sets them apart. Through behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, it documents the journey and psyches of those who devote their lives to being the first across the finish line – where a split second separates them from glory and failure. This season looks at the top sprinters in the world including Noah Lyles, Shericka Jackson and Sha’Carri Richardson.

The Man With 1000 Kids, Netflix

New on Netflix this week is a gripping documentary about the charismatic Dutch scammer Jonathan Meijer, who is accused of travelling the world and hoodwinking mothers into having his children – on an astronomical scale. After finding out that the charming man they had trusted is sperm donor to an uncountable number of other children, these aggrieved parents are now pushing for change within the law and to expose the murky world of the fertility industry.

This is the third instalment of the American slasher film series X. Mia Goth (Suspiria, A Cure For Wellness) reprises her role as Maxine Minx, an adult film star and aspiring actress, who finally gets her big break in 1980s Los Angeles. Her rise to stardom is put in jeopardy when a mysterious killer starts picking off starlets. There are fresh additions to the cast including Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager, The Crown), Lily Collins (To The Bone, Emily In Paris) and Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Leave The World Behind).

The Turkish Detective, 9pm, BBC2

This new drama is set in Istanbul. British detective Mehmet Suleyman arrives in the city to join a homicide unit led by eccentric inspector Cetin Ikmen. The team investigates the murder of a university student and must uncover the secrets of her double life, while Mehmet adapts both to his new life in Turkey and to his boss's unorthodox approach.
