MONDAY

Virdee, BBC One

Set and filmed in Bradford, Virdee delivers all the slick, high-octane energy of a London crime thriller. Viewers are thrown straight into the chaotic world of DCI Harry Virdee (Staz Nair, Rebel Moon) in this adaptation of Amit Dhand’s novels. But it’s not just the city’s turf war keeping him on edge – his estranged family still disapprove of his interfaith marriage, which only adds to the tension. Plus, a killer now threatens his city. With Bradford on the brink, Virdee’s world is in flames – but how far will he go to save it?

FRIDAY

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy

Bridget is back on the big screen for the fourth – and final – time. Renée Zellweger reprises her role as the ever-relatable Ms Jones, with Leo Woodall (One Day) joining the cast as her slightly age-inappropriate love interest, along with Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) as another suitor. Now a widow and single mother, Bridget juggles life with the support of her family, friends and former lover, Daniel – yes, Hugh Grant is back as well. Returning to work and diving into the world of dating apps, she finds herself caught between the charms of a younger man and, quite possibly, her son’s science teacher.

Yellowjackets, Paramount+

After a long hiatus, Yellowjackets returns for its third season, bringing more past and future turmoil for the high-school football team stranded in the Canadian wilderness. The season opens with a rare moment of calm – back in the forest, the survivors regroup after a brutal winter, but danger lurks just around the corner. In the present, Natalie’s death is mourned, yet perennial outsider Misty may have her own plans. Darkly funny and deeply unsettling, the show masterfully balances horror with a simmering sense of chaos that’s never fully contained. Joining the cast this season – including Sophie Thatcher (Companion), Ella Purnell (Sweetpea), Christina Ricci (The Addams Family) and Melanie Lynskey (Don’t Look Up, The Tattooist of Auschwitz) – is Oscar-winner Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby).
