Dead to Me is an upcoming Netflix Original black-comedy created by Liz Feldman, known for her work as a writer on 2 Broke Girls and the Ellen DeGeneres Show, for which she was won multiple Emmy Awards. After the sad and violent death of her husband Jeff, Jen (Christina Applegate) is bitter and angry at the world. When Jen meets Judy (Mad Men’s Linda Cardellini) who’s also a widow but not as high strung as Jen, soon a strong and powerful friendships blossoms between the pair. But as Jen allows Judy’s friendship to become an integral part of her life, unbeknown to Jen, Judy hides a dark and shocking secret.

She’s Gotta Have It – Series 2, Netflix
Spike Lee’s revival of his 1986 movie received good reviews from critics and fans alike. Now it’s back for a second series. The comedy follows Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise) on her journey of self-discovery as she figures out whether to follow her passion for music or give into the stability of the corporate world. With Wise’s character’s newfound success, the new season sees the evolution of her love life with Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos) who is now pursuing his own music career, as well as her many close-knit friends in their home of Fort Green, Brooklyn.

Bodies, iPlayer
Missing Line of Duty? The Beeb has put all of showrunner Jed Mercurio’s first-ever series on iPlayer for LoD and Bodyguard fans to enjoy. The 17-episode series – which ran from 2004-2006 – is a dark medical drama which follows junior doctor Rob Lake (Max Beesley) as he unearths the negligent practice of senior obstetrician Roger Hurley (Patrick Baladi). Mercurio has called his debut the best thing he’s ever written, making this a must watch.

Knock Down The House, Netflix
A young bartender in the Bronx, a coal miner's daughter in West Virginia, a grieving mother in Nevada, and a registered nurse in Missouri build a movement of insurgent candidates to challenge powerful incumbents in Congress. Filmed in the aftermath of Trump’s election, the film follows these four ‘outsiders’. One of their races will become the most shocking political upsets in recent American history – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (aka AOC), who has since gone on to become a New York congresswoman and high-profile critic of Trump’s government. Inspiring stuff.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile, Now TV
Ted Bundy was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar and necrophile who, after denying his crimes for nearly a decade, confessed to a four-year killing spree between 1974 and 1978 in which he murdered 30 women. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile is a fictionalised version of his life and crimes, starring Zac Efron, and told from the point of view of his ex-girlfriend, Liz Kloepfer (Lily Collins), who wrote a tell-all book about their life together at the height of his killing spree.

Baby (Ansel Elgort), is a music-loving orphan who also happens to be the prodigiously talented go-to getaway driver for heist mastermind Doc (Kevin Spacey). With the perfect soundtrack picked out for each and every job, Baby ensures Doc's violent, bank-robbing cronies – including Buddy (Jon Hamm), Bats (Jamie Foxx) and Darling (Eiza Gonzalez) – get in and out before it's too late. He's not in it for the long haul though, hoping to nail one last job before riding off into the sunset with beautiful diner waitress Debora (Lily James). Easier said than done.

Derry Girls – Series 1, Netflix
Lisa McGee’s Derry Girls was an instant hit when it launched last year. Set in the early 1990s, the six-part show depicts the lives of four teenage girls (and one of their male cousins) as they grow up in Troubles-era Northern Ireland. Armoured Land Rovers, British Army check points and IRA graffiti are all scattered throughout the series, but this is far from a depressing depiction of a war-torn time, rather it’s a genuinely laugh-out-loud tale that follows protagonist Erin Quinn and her friends as they attempt to navigate the highs and lows of being 16.

Based on a true story that gripped the country, Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us chronicles the notorious case of five teenagers of colour, labelled the ‘Central Park Five’, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. The four-part series focuses on the five teenagers from Harlem: Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the series spans 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014. A powerful watch.
