FOODIE

Cato

Already shaping up to be one of 2026’s most exciting openings, Cato arrives in Seven Dials this January, blending New York bar energy with British produce and a boundary-pushing cocktail philosophy. Created by Bart & Taylor in partnership with award-winning bartender Angelos Bafas, the venue unfolds across three distinct spaces. Upstairs, The House of Julep reimagines the cocktail that made its namesake famous, using mint and herbs grown on site. Downstairs, the main bar centres on Colour Has Flavour – a synesthesia-inspired menu of 14 cocktails spanning seven hues, each crafted exclusively using British spirits and produce. Completing the experience is The Study, a creative lab for masterclasses and experimental serves, alongside elevated American comfort food – from fried oysters to indulgent toasties.

Café Kowloon

Hot on the heels of Wonton Charlie’s, hospitality group 6 of 1 is opening Cafe Kowloon – a modern Cantonese kitchen tucked just behind its sibling site. The new spot takes cues from Hong Kong’s dai pai dong stalls, dim sum houses and cocktail bars, with counter seating, booth dining and a menu designed for sharing. Expect everything from grilled curry fish balls and wok-fried cheung fun to Iberico secreto char siu and prawn toast topped with crispy heads and chilli oil. Inventive cocktails – including a banana-and-chocolate absinthe-spiked Kowloon Classic – sit alongside a low-intervention wine list curated by Theatre of Wine.

MATIERE PREMIERE Flagship

French perfume house MATIERE PREMIERE has opened its first-ever London flagship in Covent Garden, bringing its cult, ingredient-led fragrances to the capital. Founded by master perfumer Aurélien Guichard, MATIERE PREMIERE is all about celebrating one exceptional raw material at a time. The 708 sq ft space mirrors that philosophy, with a clean, minimalist design split between fragrance discovery and a dedicated olfactory zone exploring the house’s hero ingredients. Standouts include rose centifolia, tuberose and lavender, all organically grown by Guichard himself in Grasse – a rarity in modern perfumery. There’s also a fragrance bar where visitors can build personalised discovery sets using 6ml bottles.
