One of the summer’s key social events, Royal Ascot is also a big moment in the fashion calendar. Following the release of the official Royal Ascot lookbook for 2024, we’ve laid out the dress codes and some outfit ideas to help you get it right.

With five days of world-class racing, unparalleled style and an electric atmosphere, Ascot is the  racing event of the season. And, if you haven’t already, now is the time to book your tickets and plan your outfits. Steeped in history, the illustrious even is the centrepiece of the British social season, and sets the stage for world-class horse racing and celebrations.

The Enclosures

If you are looking to experience Royal Ascot in luxury, a Fine Dining experience offers ultimate indulgence. With facilities like the Parade Ring Restaurant, within the Royal Enclosure, or ON 5 restaurant in the Queen Anne Enclosure you can dine in style and enjoy unparalleled views of the racing action.

If looking to attend with General Admission, the Queen Anne Enclosure is the most premium public enclosure at Royal Ascot, with tickets selling fast and Saturday now sold out. Guests can enjoy Parade Ring viewing and the traditional Singing Around The Bandstand.

For those who want to indulge in the festivities, The Village Enclosure is open from Thursday to Saturday and offers a great festival experience with an after-party that runs until late. Tickets are being snapped up fast, with limited availability across all days.

Want a more relaxed approach to really soak in the experience at a leisurely pace? The Windsor Enclosure is the perfect choice. Booking soon is advisable, as there's limited availability across all days. 


WHAT TO WEAR

Royal Enclosure

(Members Only)

  • This is where the dress code of  ‘formal daywear’ is taken seriously, and the rules are at their most rigorous.

  •  Dresses and skirts should be of a modest length falling just above the knee or longer.  

  • Lace and chiffon fabrics are permitted. 

  • Shoulder straps should be at least 1 inch (2.5cm); spaghetti straps are not permitted. 

  • Jackets and pashminas may be worn. Tops and dresses underneath should still comply with the shoulder strap requirements. 

  • Trouser suits are welcome, and should be of matching material and colour.  

  • Jumpsuits are welcome, but they should fall below the knee and comply with shoulder strap requirements. 

  • Hats should be worn – however a headpiece with a solid base of at least 4 inches (10cm) in diameter is an acceptable alternative. Fascinators are not permitted.  

  • Strapless, one-shoulder, off-the-shoulder, halterneck and bardot styles are not permitted. 

  • Sheer fabrics are not permitted. 

  • Visible midriffs are not permitted.  

Queen Anne Enclosure

  • Ladies within these enclosures are required to dress in a manner ‘befitting of a formal occasion’. 

  • A dress or top and skirt, with shoulder or halterneck straps, are permitted. 

  • Lace and chiffon fabrics are permitted, no minimum length. 

  • Trouser suits are welcome, and should be of matching material and colour. 

  • Jumpsuits should fall below the knee, and comply with the above strap requirements. 

  • A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times. 

  • Strapless and sheer dresses and tops are not permitted. This includes bardot, one-shoulder and off-the-shoulder styles. 

  • Sheer fabrics are not permitted. 

  • Visible midriffs are not permitted. 

Village Enclosure

  • Ladies within the Village Enclosure are required to dress in a manner as befits a formal occasion.
