The Best Massage Candles For Valentine’s Day

The Best Massage Candles For Valentine’s Day

Come date night, a massage candle might be the bedroom accessory you never knew you needed. From sleek, understated black jars, to scents designed to ease stress and tensions, here’s how they work and some of our favourites…

All products on this page have been selected by our editorial team, however we may make commission on some products.

How they work…

Unlike your average candle, massage candles are specifically formulated to melt at lower temperatures, meaning they burn in a different way. As the hot wax melts, it becomes an oil, which can be poured onto the skin. As Molly Murphy, co-founder of Kiki De Montparnasse explains, “Massage candles make it easy for even the novice to give an unforgettable massage. Light your candle to illuminate the room with light and scent, and then watch as the candle melts into a rich oil. Drizzle the oil on your partner and work it into the skin. Warm oil, paired with a personal touch, creates a heightened sensory experience. In fact, studies have shown that the power of touch can calm nerves, relieve stress and release oxytocin, the love hormone.”

Nor do you need to be in a relationship to reap the benefits of a massage candle, says Holly. “If you are solo, light your candle before running a bath to fill the room with scent. You can then drizzle a few drops of the oil into your bath, and when you get out, use the oil on your body to soften and smooth.”

Want in? These are the candles to try…

Kiki De Montparnasse Massage Candle, £76

Kiki de Montparnasse’s luxurious lingerie has been spotted on the likes of Bella Hadid and Miranda Kerr, and its collection of provocative accessories has been designed to encourage sexual exploration. Available in two sultry scents – lotus and santal – these candles melt into a sensual oil that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, or not.

Oskia Massage Candle, £49

With a clean design and a rich, rose smell (the roses used in this blend are native to the French city of Grasse, the perfume capital of the world) this luxe candle is an industry favourite. The scent lasts for hours on the skin and the pouring spout makes pouring the oil easy and mess-free – perfect if you’re worried about your bedsheets.

Aura Couple’s Candle, £34

New sexual wellness brand Aura’s range of lubricants and toys comes highly recommended, and its Couple’s Candle is no exception. Handmade in Scotland, the 100% natural and butter-infused oil blend has deep, woody undertones, making it the perfect companion for a romantic evening.

Neom Skin Treatment Candle, £36

Created specifically for the skin, Neom’s bestselling candles are brimming with nourishing ingredients – think vitamin-rich cocoa butter, moisturising soybean and almond oil. With a spa-like fragrance that lingers in the room well after the candle has been blown out, you can also relax knowing it’s crafted from ethically sourced plants.

LELO Flickering Touch Massage Candle, £24.90

LELO may be well versed in sex toys, but its accessories line also gets our vote. With a rich scent that’s sweet without being sickly (think apricot kernel oil, shea butter, soy, vanilla and cacao), this candle burns at just the right temperature to provide a luxurious oil. It also has an impressive 36-hour burn time.

Prismologie Oud Massage Candle, £49

A firm SL favourite, this beauty hero is one to keep to yourself. Made with natural soy and beeswax and aromatic oud, it melts into a warm oil combining wild mango and coconut oil to soften even the driest of skin. Prismologie recommend you try the candle with their five-minute meditation ritual – the ultimate in self-care indulgence.

Seed To Skin The Massage Candle, £51

Housed in a stylish ceramic jar, this hand-poured, vegan-friendly candle has a woody, unisex fragrance, making it perfect to use with your other half. The wax melts instantly by the heat of the flame into a fragrant oil and can be poured straight onto the skin for a warm and soothing massage treatment.

Rituals The Ritual of Jing Massage Candle, £23.50

Infused with delicate lavender and sandalwood – both prized for their ability to clear and focus the mind – this candle is a good pre-bedtime choice if you’re looking to de-stress. Rituals recommends letting the candle burn for 15 minutes before blowing it out and waiting for two minutes to let the oil cool for the best results.

Sunday Riley Come Upstairs Candle, £57

Known for their results-driven skincare, Sunday Riley’s massage candle is made with all-natural wax and an 100% cotton wick as well as skin-softening jojoba oil and shea butter. Massage the sweet-smelling oil – concentrated with linden blossom, honey, vanilla and sandalwood – into tight muscles to relieve tension and induce a calmer state of mind.
