What's The Story Behind HANX?
The lightbulb moment for HANX came after spotting a gap whilst in a high-street pharmacy. “Prior to the launch of HANX, the condom market was outdated, with garish packaging more suited to nightclub bathrooms,” Farah tells us. “Plus, the messaging around both the product and sex itself was very penis-centric, which left many women feeling left out of the equation. Mainstream brands also use many questionable ingredients in their condoms – think chemicals, delay gels and flavourings – which can irritate delicate areas. Sarah also has a background in gynaecology and sexual health, so we’ve developed our products to be safe, gentle and effective.”
What Are The Condoms Made From?
The HANX condom was the brand’s first product and continues to be a bestseller. Europe’s first female-designed condom, it’s ultra-thin, vegan-certified, 100% natural and Fairtrade, gynaecologist approved and clean scented. “We have swapped animal protein casein for plant extract for smoothness, and they’re made with Fairtrade latex, which not only gives back to farms, but means there’s no rubbery smell,” says Sarah. “Throw one on a compost heap and it will start breaking down after three months and the chic, gender-neutral packaging is also an industry first. We really believe that women should feel confident and empowered to buy contraception – in fact, we’ve had investors tell us women don’t buy condoms, which simply isn’t true,” she adds.

“Sarah had seen patients at sexual health clinics with irritation and yeast infections caused by substandard condoms and lubricant, so we knew there was a real need for products that didn’t negatively impact intimate health,” Farah continues. “In fact, studies show 75% of people use lubricant to enhance sexual experiences, but many don’t realise leading brands contain chemicals which can irritate.
