How To Wear Eye Gloss This Summer

Proving you don’t need highlighter or glitter to glow, eye gloss is the subtle way to take dewy make-up to the next level this summer. And while the look may seem high-fashion (glistening formulas have been spotted on models' eyelids on countless runways), it's surprisingly straight-forward to recreate. We caught up with make-up artist Emma Day, whose clientele include Sienna Miller and Rosamund Pike, for her top tips on getting that high-shine finish...

Keep It Simple

If you’re intimidated by eye gloss, don’t be. When applied well, the chic look works for day and night. Apply with your fingers in the same way you would a creamy eye-shadow, sweeping all across the lids.

Make It Work For You

While a glossy eye is the ideal party look (try a coloured gloss or apply a clear one over your favourite shadow and team with plenty of mascara on the lower and upper lashes) it can also work for the day; simply stick to a clear gloss and keep the rest of your skin matte, especially the T-zone, to keep it wearable.

Go Matte

For contrast, pair a glossy eye with a matte lip – this will keep the look modern. Dior has a great range of matte lipsticks in an impressive array of shades.

Stick To Neutral

If you’re unsure where to start, you can’t go wrong with Mac’s Studio Eye Gloss in Slightly Tauped, a flattering light beige colour that works on the majority of skin tones.
