10 New Brunch Spots To Book

We’re always on the hunt for a new weekend brunch spot. From a one-off festival celebrating all things avocado to a meat mecca hailing the return of ‘surf ‘n’ turf’, here are ten great restaurants with fresh weekend menus…

London Brunch Fest

London Brunch Fest is back for a second year. Within Old Truman Brewery there will be coffee, booze, workshops, talks, music and loads of food. Guests can wander around the marketplace and sample all things brunch related, from smoothies to juices, teas from around the world, granolas, yogurts, pastries and more. Shakshuka Sundays, the Middle Eastern brunch series, will be curating music all weekend and there will be a headline performance from resident DJ, Ari Houmous. New for 2019 is an area called Sweet Street: a whole room dedicated to desserts. Expect doughnuts, brownies, ice-cream, boozy lollies and pies.

The Coal Shed

The Coal Shed’s new brunch revives the retro classic ‘surf ‘n’ turf’, bringing the restaurant’s seaside roots from the shores of Brighton to the bank of the Thames. Every Saturday, expect an absolute spread, which includes a 500g Himalayan salt-aged bone-in sirloin, maple-cured Tamworth bacon chop, smoked black pudding, scallop and pork skewers, tiger prawns and n’duja with mussels. Sides include grilled hispi cabbage, onion rings, beef dripping chips, mac and cheese or a classic fried egg and guests can choose from béarnaise, green peppercorn, salsa verde or Korean BBQ sauce. Cocktails on offer include Bloody Marys with in-house smoked tomato juice, a breakfast martini or a botanical bellini with prosecco, horseradish, bay laurel and white peach.

Hide

Ollie Dabbous’ Hide has launched a lavish brunch menu. Known for its inventive cuisine, Hide received a Michelin star just six months after opening, and his brunch selection offers the same inventive touch. On arrival, guests will be treated to a ripe peach and lime leaf mimosa, created by renowned bar manager Oskar Kinberg. Sharing plates include Porthilly oysters with Amalfi lemon; tempura aubergine served with Thai basil and green peppercorns; and flatbread cooked over charcoal with beetroot hummus and Graceburn creamy cheese. For mains, guests can choose from burrata with ripe tomato, basil and black olive or cured organic salmon, chervil mayonnaise and pickled yellow courgette. Rounding off the menu is a selection of desserts. We like the sound of the summer fruit clafoutis with lavender and crème fraiche or the mango and pandan leaf sundae.

Prawn On The Lawn

There’s nothing quite like ringing in a sunny Sunday morning with a Bloody Mary and a good helping of fresh smoked salmon. Prawn on the Lawn in Islington is renowned for serving some of the freshest seafood London has to offer, with fish delivered to the restaurant within 24 hours of being caught off day boats in Cornwall. Alongside classic and Thai Bloody Marys (which guests can add an oyster to), Sunday diners can order a selection of small plates from the main menu – which includes the likes of hake, feta, dill, mint and olive oil and Porthilly mussels with clams and manzanilla. The perfect brunch for those who love seafood and are looking for something other than avocado and eggs.

Rüya

Rüya has launched its first ever brunch menu, serving contemporary classics with an Anatolian twist. The restaurant’s chef-patron Colin Clague – formerly of Zuma and Caprice Holdings – has created a variety of dishes and accompanying cocktails influenced by various Anatolian regions, stretching from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea. Family-style sharing dishes will also feature on the menu for those looking for a more communal experience, including items such as lamb shank clay pot, whole grilled sea bream and 24-hour slow-cooked short rib. When it comes to sides, we like the sound of pilaf pistachio rice with spinach and herbs; and ‘Fire!’ – a house selection of chilli sauce, Turkish chilli peppers and chopped chilli. Those looking for a chilled start to their weekend can opt for brunch on ‘Lazy Saturdays’, which will host weekly DJ slots.
