5 New Restaurants To Try This July

This month, all the hottest new London openings come with some big names behind them – from ex-Polpo chef Tom Oldroyd’s new pub, through to repeat performances from the teams behind Kitty Fishers, Cliveden and the Soho House Group. To say our expectations are high is an understatement…

Jones Family Kitchen

Born in Shoreditch, The Jones Family Project has spread its wings and branched out in Belgravia with sister venue, The Jones Family Kitchen. Headed up by former Barrafina chef Oliver Pollard and with an ingredient-led philosophy (think Ginger Pig meats cooked on Josper grills; truffled macaroni cheese; and an Insta-worthy brunch menu) as well as a stellar wine list, we predict the tucked-away courtyard will be this summer's hotspot. We’ve already been back twice since we first visited and celebrity caterers Tart London’s debut restaurant, Eccleston Place by Tart London, is poised to open next door within months. We’ll see you there.

Hans' Bar & Grill

Chelsea’s food scene continues to thrive, and there's no better proof of that than Hans' Bar & Grill, on Pavillion Road. Headed up by the team behind the Chewton Glen and Cliveden House Hotel (where Meghan Markle stayed the night before her wedding to Prince Harry, no less), Hans' allows you to sit in one of three seating areas: the bar, all exposed brick and floor-to-ceiling glass doors (which affords you all the benefits of sitting outside without the sunburn); the formal, darkly lit dining room located at the back of the building; and the Courtyard restaurant, flooded with plenty of natural light. Pick from a seasonal menu which, right now, features the likes of fresh razor clams with cider, bacon and peas; Barnsley lamb chop; creamy buttermilk panna cotta, with rhubarb and fiery ginger beer; and a 180-bottle-strong wine list.

The Duke of Richmond

Tackling the trend for fine-dining food served in pub surroundings, this new launch from ex-Polpo chef Tom Oldroyd feels like a proper public house. Restored to its former glory and original name, The Duke of Richmond offers a 30-seat dining room and a 20-capacity terrace, all smartly kitted out in green tones. Bar food includes elevated classics such as crispy pigs ears; a Cornish crab chip butty with brown crab rouille; and a 6oz rib burger with Roquefort, confit shallots and béarnaise sauce, while the dining room serves refined French staples, including Cornish crab soufflé, crab bisque and gruyere toast and Swaledale lamb en croute with green beans and truffle butter. Group feasting menus start at £35 per person.

Cora Pearl

The team behind celebrated restaurant Kitty Fisher’s in Mayfair has launched its second site. Following the narrative of its sister restaurant, Cora Pearl is named after a celebrated British born courtesan who went on to become the party queen of Paris. The kitchen, led by Kitty Fisher’s Head Chef George Barson, continues the tale by merging British and Gallic ingredients: think Bloody Mary mackerel; cow’s curd agnolotti with peas and summer truffle; and ham and cheese toasties with pickle. Located inside a Georgian townhouse, the restaurant’s décor reflects the vintage era with parquet flooring, dark textiles, ferns, upholstered wall panels and tarnished mirrors. On the lower-ground floor, there’s a cocktail basement that serves inventive sips, such as ‘Four Fathom Five’, a rum-based tipple infused with seaweed botanicals.

Cecconi’s Pizza Bar

A relaxed sister restaurant to The Ned’s Cecconi’s, Soho House Group’s Cecconi’s Pizza Bar has opened on Old Compton Street. Bearing the brand’s signature marble-striped floor, the interiors reference Italian landmark Harry’s Bar in Venice: picture a rosewood panelled bar and matching walls, brass fittings, and original Italian black and white photos and advertising prints from the 1950s hung on the walls. In its centre is a mid-century Venetian-style bar serving negronis, Aperol spritz and prosecco on tap, while the kitchen serves simple Italian comfort food, including crispy zucchini fritti with lemon aioli; rich crab spaghetti with chilli, parsley and olive oil; and pizzas topped with the likes of bresaola, smoked burrata, rocket and cherry tomatoes. Our top tip? On a hot day, ask for one of the window seats and order an olive oil negroni – you’ll feel like you’re in Rome.
