Feels Like June, Canary Wharf

Feels Like June is the latest opening in Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf’s newest neighbourhood. Inspired by California, Feels Like June is an all-day spot serving Europe-meets-West Coast flavours. Breakfast sees the team serve hot coffee frothed with homemade nut milks, pistachio and almond pastries, pastrami and mustard buns, glazed cinnamon rolls and a selection of açai bowls. Of the lunch and dinner menu, we like the sound of the kitchen’s twist on US favourite tater tots, which are filled with cacio e pepe; its caesar schnitzel; and the shrimp tacos. Right now, its terrace is the place to book, where a relaxed funk-soul soundtrack sets the scene for after-work drinks or long weekend catch-ups. As for the cocktails, we like the sound of the rhubarb cosmopolitan made with lemon vodka, curaçao, rhubarb, citrus and lemon zest.

Miro, Mayfair

New restaurant and late-night spot Miro has opened on Burlington Street. Toby Burrowes, who previously cooked at Zuma and Michelin-starred Elystan Street, has created a globally inspired menu, which is served late into the night every Tuesday to Saturday. Extravagant small plates include king crab and confit garlic croquettes; truffled cheese toasties; mini brioche beef tartare caviar tins; bone marrow brulée; and Miro’s take on fish and chips – layers of crisp potato, fatty tuna and wasabi tartare. Larger dishes include yuzu and sake lobster thermidor; and Josper-grilled celeriac served on truffled butter bean purée and roasted hazelnut pesto. Like Cream Group’s other venues – which include Cirque Le Soir and The Windmill Soho – the team has brought elements of their nightclubs to Miro, with DJs and dancing every night.

Maria G’s, Kensington

Robin Gill – of the much-missed The Dairy in Clapham – has a new restaurant. Maria G's is inspired by his time spent working in the south of Italy and his love for a particular fishing village, Marina Del Cantone, which he still visits regularly with his family. On the ground floor of a new housing development in Kensington, this is a neighbourhood spot offering Italian staples made with British ingredients sourced from Robin’s close network of suppliers. A beautifully designed venue, of all the spaces we loved the look of the tables in the flower-filled garden. Hits on the current menu include pappardelle with pink fir potatoes, pancetta and egg yolk; linguine ‘Nerano’, a famous Amalfi pasta dish made with fried courgette and provolone cheese; and an excellent olive oil soft-serve gelato. Don’t forget to order a portion of parmesan fries to go with your aperitif – they’re delicious.

Miznon, Soho

Miznon – meaning Kiosk in Hebrew – first opened in Tel Aviv in 2011 and has since expanded to Paris, Vienna, New York, Melbourne, Singapore and Boston. Now it’s landed in Soho, and has been designed in a similarly modern/rustic way to the original, complete with signature green tiles. Founded by celebrity chef Eyal Shani and renowned for its modern take on Israeli food, hit dishes include its well-loved whole roasted cauliflower, a seasoned lamb kebab filled with grilled tomato, onions, tahini and pickles; and the ‘Minute Steak Plate’, which is served with tahini, salsa and tomatoes. When it comes to drinks, Miznon serves four homemade bottled cocktails, giving customers the option to pimp them with either Gin Miznon – which has notes of sage, juniper, coriander, licorice, angelica, sumac and pistachio – or Miznon Vodka, which is infused with sage. We love the sound of the ‘Dawn’, which combines lemon, verbena, thyme and grapefruit fruit – and can be sipped alone for a lively non-alcoholic option.

Tatale, Waterloo

Supper club superstar Akwasi Brenya-Mensa’s debut restaurant, Tatale, has opened at The Africa Centre. On Great Suffolk Street, just around the corner from The Cut's restaurants and theatres, Tatale is a beautiful space filled with sandy clay plaster walls, intricately carved timber furniture, vivid woven fabrics and artwork from pioneering African artists – all the work of interior designer Tola Ojuolape. Taking its name from a Ghanaian plantain dish, the restaurant serves a selection of small plates such as black-eyed bean hummus with plantain chips; chichinga buttermilk fried chicken wings with dill emulsion; ackee croquettes, and Brenya-Mensa’s signature mashed rice and groundnut soup. We can’t wait to try it.
