The hunt for the ‘Son of Sam’ captivated the world in the late 1970s, but the story behind one of America’s most notorious serial murderers is all but forgotten – until now. While the arrest and conviction of David Berkowitz brought the nightmare to an end for many New Yorkers, for journalist and Ultimate Evil author Maury Terry, the real mystery was just beginning. Terry, convinced Berkowitz had not acted alone, would go on to spend decades attempting to prove that the web of darkness behind the murders went deeper than anyone imagined – and his pursuit of that elusive truth would eventually cost him everything. This new documentary draws on archival news footage, conversations with the people closest to the investigation, and Terry’s own words and case files to tell a cautionary tale of a man who went down a rabbit hole – and never came out.

Monster, Netflix
Having premiered three years ago at the Sundance festival, Monster finally gets its global release this month. The drama follows 17-year-old student Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.), a smart and likeable teen at an elite school who looks set for a bright future. Then he’s charged with felony murder, throwing Steve and his family into an intense legal battle that raises an existential threat to that future. Expect a poignant exploration of race, masculinity and innocence.

Now’s your chance to watch this Oscar best picture winner. Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand – who also won an Oscar for her performance in this) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, Nomadland features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.

Tenet, Now TV
Directed by Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight), Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Kenneth Branagh. Due to the pandemic, Tenet’s release was put back three times last year – and following a small cinema release, it’s now available on Now. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the revenge-bent Cruella.
