FOOD & DRINK

CeCe’s

The team behind buzzy London pubs like The Hart, The Fat Badger and The Hero has turned its attention to Italian cooking with the opening of CeCe’s in Notting Hill. Run by the Public House Group, the restaurant brings a touch of old-school glamour to Clarendon Road, pairing elegant interiors – palms, soft fabrics and glowing table lamps – with classic Italian hospitality. On the menu are comforting staples such as aubergine parmigiana, bream carpaccio topped with caviar, fonduta-filled agnolotti and bistecca alla Fiorentina. A thoughtful wine list leans heavily Italian but also dips into Burgundy, Bordeaux and standout bottles from across Europe and the US.

TAQ

After two decades as Taqueria, the Westbourne Grove institution has returned with a fresh rebrand: TAQ. The reboot comes with a completely reworked menu from chef Eduardo Yishima, backed by restaurateur Jackson Boxer. Expect a playful, modern approach to Mexican street food, with dishes such as tempura fish tacos, tuna tostadas and quesadillas filled with carnitas, mushroom or chorizo. A rotating blackboard of specials adds extra intrigue – including a fish torta inspired by Boxer’s Orasay days and a taco spin on the Dove cheeseburger, complete with dry-aged beef, Red Leicester and fried onions. Drinks are equally unfussy: £10 margaritas, mezcal cocktails, Mexican lagers and a concise wine list designed for easy drinking.

CULTURE

David Hockney At The Serpentine

For the first time ever, David Hockney will exhibit at the Serpentine Galleries, with a major show opening at the Serpentine North Gallery this March. David Hockney: A Year in Normandie and Some Other Thoughts About Painting centres on the artist’s monumental 90m frieze, inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and capturing the shifting seasons in Normandy, where Hockney lived and worked. Created on his iPad during the first Covid lockdown, the work charts a full year of changing light, weather and landscape. Alongside the frieze, visitors can expect a new series of still lifes and portraits depicting people close to Hockney, each united by a signature frontal composition and recurring gingham motif.
