What To Do This Weekend 04.04.24

Looking for things to do this weekend? Look no further – from a luxury sample sale to Michelin-starred chef residency, our guide has options for everyone…

GRAB THE GIRLS:

Chiave Cocktail Bar

Shoreditch’s bar scene is always going to be a cut above the rest, and its latest addition, Chiave, is testament to its cool-girl reputation. The name, meaning ‘key’ in Italian, is an indication of how you feel when you step inside. Split across two floors, there’s homeware, books, magazines and vinyl available to purchase on the ground level, as well as a cocktail bar serving mixologist-approved drinks. Downstairs, in the basement, you’ll find an intimate dance floor space where both renowned and up-and-coming DJs will be spinning house, electro funk and hip hop.

It's organised by Southwark Park Galleries, with artists selected by a panel including previous participants and leading figures in the arts community. This year, names include Che Applewhaite, Aqsa Arif, MV Brown, Philippa Brown and Alliyah Enyo.

ENJOY SOME ART:

Capturing The Moment

When photography emerged in the 19th century, it quickly became an artform, but it also changed the nature of art itself. Featuring big names from Picasso to Warhol, this popular Tate Modern exhibition – which has just had its run extended – explores the relationship between the two.

The Velveteen Rabbit

Running just this Friday and Saturday, London’s Sadlers Wells is putting on a children’s classic – The Velveteen Rabbit. Inspired by Margery Williams’ heart-warming story of a stuffed rabbit and a grown-up boy pondering the reality of getting older, a mix of dance and theatre explores how the two question what it means to be loved, and discover what it might take to be real. Tickets start from £18 and all shows are relaxed performances.
