TRY A NEW SPOT:
Freak Scene
After garnering rave reviews at its Fulham outpost last year, Freak Scene has landed in Balham. Run by Aussie Scott Hallsworth (ex-Nobu head chef), the new neighbourhood spot has a pan-Asian menu with dishes like grilled hispi cabbage with beurre noisette, ponzu, dried miso and truffle, and Singapore chilli crab. There’s a strong sake list, with a selection of zingy late-night cocktails to carry on the party.

London Tide
With a story based on Charles Dickens’ Our Mutual Friend, this thriller is centred around the city and the river that runs through it. The minds behind the production are impressive: it is directed by Iran Rickson (Translations), adapted by Ben Power (The Lehman Trilogy) and accompanied by original music from the legendary PJ Harvey. The cast is loaded with up-and-comers like Bella Maclean (Sex Education) alongside more established stage and screen actors like Scott Karim (Dracula, Othello). Tickets start from £20.
