GET DRESSED UP:

J Sheekey

J Sheekey has transformed its terrace into an impressive train-inspired installation. Until the end of August, diners can enjoy J Sheekey’s signature dishes on the terrace, inspired by the golden age of travel – picture a glamorous art-deco design that looks like something from an Agatha Christie novel. There’s also a new cocktail menu in collaboration with Plymouth Gin with drinks like the ‘Devon 75’ made with Plymouth Navy, calvados, lemon marmalade and Sassy Rosé cider; and the ‘Brighton Royal’ featuring Plymouth Falernum, Nyetimber Classic Cuvee and sugar.

28-32 St Martin's Court, Covent Garden, WC2N 4AL

WATCH THIS PLAY:

Hungry

This new play has just opened at the Soho Theatre. A timely release in light of Pride events up and down the country, Hungry by playwright Chris Bush explores themes of class, queerness, cultural appropriation and the cost of gentrification. Lori is a chef. Bex waits tables. The two lock eyes in a walk-in fridge in the restaurant they work in – the rest is history. Lori wants to teach Bex about the finer things in life, but Bex has a complicated relationship with herself and society in general. It’s a powerful story about what it means to be queer and working class in Britain today. Tickets start from £12.

Until Saturday 30th July; 21 Dean Street, Soho, W1D 3NE

COOL DOWN:

Magnum Ice-Cream Pop-Up

Just in time for this week’s heatwave, Magnum opens its immersive pop-up today. Inspired by the ice-cream brand’s new Remix range, Magnum Studios puts visitors’ senses to the test with interactive tasks involving music, art, and of course, ice-cream. Make your way through the ‘Classic’ rooms to test your music knowledge, before entering the ‘Remix’ booths where you can record one of your favourite songs or put your own remix spin on a selection of tracks. During both, you’ll try a range of free Magnums, each served in retro cassette boxes. On Sunday 17th July, don’t miss an acoustic performance from singer Cat Burns.

BOOK AHEAD:

Live Screening of Prima Facie at The Soho Hotel

On Thursday 21st July at 7pm, The Soho Hotel is hosting a live screening of the National Theatre's production Prima Facie, starring Jodie Comer, the Emmy and Bafta-winning star of Killing Eve, Free Guy and The Last Duel. Guests can enjoy a two-course dinner and welcome cocktail at the hotel’s Refuel Bar & Restaurant, before settling down in the screening room. Prima Facie is a gripping, one-person play which takes audiences to the heart of where emotion and experience collide. Tessa is a young, brilliant barrister who loves to win. She has worked her way up from working-class origins to be at the top of her game; prosecuting, cross examining and lighting up the shadows of doubt in any case. Then, an unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge. Tickets cost £60pp, which includes dinner and a cocktail.

MEET THE GIRLS:

Scott’s

Regular SL readers will know Scott’s is one of our favourite spots in the city, so we were pleased to hear it’s opened a new terrace in partnership with Krug Champagne and home décor brand de Gournay. At ‘Midsummer on Mount Street’, diners can enjoy dishes and drinks from the new menu under the exotic-inspired awning created by de Gournay. Order the Girolle Risotto special paired with a glass of the Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition, or choose from Scott’s signature dishes like fruits de mer platters, whole fish for sharing, and sashimi and carpaccio.

ENJOY THE SUNSHINE: Häagen-Dazs Disco Ice-Cream Van in Boxpark

From Friday 15th to Saturday 16th July, Häagen-Dazs is hosting an ice-cream van pop-up at Boxpark Shoreditch. The takeover includes DJ decks on the rooftop, a huge ice-cream disco ball and – wait for it – a sparkling scoop-shaped seesaw. On Friday night, singer Pixie Lott and DJ Woody Cook will set the vibes with up-tempo dance tracks while guests tuck into Häagen-Dazs ice-cream, including the new Duo collection which has two flavours in each pot – think Vanilla Hazelnut & Caramel Crunch. We like the sound of the Belgian Chocolate & Strawberry Crunch for something fruity and refreshing.
